S2R 1000 Engine Surge
Since I bought my bike, there has been an engine surge at all RPM's. You hardly feel it at highway speeds, but at slower speeds it is very annoying. The dealer I bought my bike from told me I needed to buy a power commander and get it dynoed blah blah blah. So I went to another dealer and they have had my bike for two weeks. So far they have told me they checked:
TPS
Throttle synch
Valve timing and clearence
Mixture
O2 Sensor
Intake leaks
They haven't had any luck and they are going to swap out the ECU and Step Motor. I know some other people have complained of this, but no one has posted what fixed it if anything did. If you had this problem and got it fixed, could you describe what was done, please?
Thanks

See if you can get them to swap your ECU for a M1000 ECU and pull the O2 sensor altogether.

Re: S2R 1000 Engine Surge
Yeah, I have read most of those posts, and it seems the only fix that people posted is a power commander and new exhaust or something like that. I really don't want to spend money for my $10,000 brand new bike to run right. I want Ducati to get it running right for free. Is that too much to ask? LOL

They should be able to get it running. Mine runs fine. So the system works. Plus, there are other owners who aren't having trouble either.

Re: S2R 1000 Engine Surge
I just got off the phone with the service manager. When they disconnected the O2 sensor, it ran much better. However, they tested the sensor and it is not the problem. It appears to be the ECU. They have a new one coming in that has an upgraded firmware or something to fix it. The Ducati rep told them this has been a very common problem.

Re: S2R 1000 Engine Surge
Mine surges a tad when hovering between 3.5k-4k rpm in 1st and 2nd and clears up at higher revs. I just always chalked it up to being the nature of the engine at low revs. It sounds Ducati needs to send out a recall on the ECU's.

Re: S2R 1000 Engine Surge
I dunno where my previous post went. Weird.
Anyway, I got the bike back for the weekend. They disconnected the o2 sensor and it runs as smooth as butta! Way more power now since they adjusted every single thing on the bike trying to figure out the surge. I bet they have 40 hours of working on it, and then I had to suggest to them to disconnect the o2 sensor because of the posts on this board. Thanks guys!
They have a new ECU, O2 sensor, and step motor on order. When they come in, I will take it back to see if they can keep it running well with everything connected.
When I rode the bike home I didn't notice any surge at all, probably because I was use to such a large and obvious one. However, there is the very slightest surge still present, but I could live with it.

Re: S2R 1000 Engine Surge
If your O2 sensor is disconnected your bike is going to run very rich if you don't have the DP ECU. You might want to carry an extra set of plugs with you in case the ones you are running foul.

Easier and cheaper to carry one wire brush, than four spark plugs in that little tiny underseat compartment.
