Re: Popped my first cherry. FINISHED PHOTOS ADDED.
Congratulations!!! Good job on all of it. I have to say that the black engine looks great! You may have inspired me; the paint on my engine is looking pretty ratty, and then there's that streak on the side where I used PJ1 to clean the clutch cover, and.......
Would you mind shooting down to San Diego and helping me out?
Again, strong work.

Re: Popped my first cherry. FINISHED PHOTOS ADDED.
Well my beautiful engine only lasted about a week. This morning on my way to work I noticed a small fuel leak that literally dissolved some of the new paint. You would think a paint made for engines would hold up a little better to gasoline. :'(
The fuel leak was a problem I had before I started this project. I just thought that if I was careful to get the hose on better this time it would go away. I guess it didn't. Tonight I'm going to try tightening the nut where it connects to the tank and snipping a little off the end of the hose and reattaching it. If anyone knows of any other tricks to stopping a leak in this area let me know.
Anyway I admit I'm a little bummed about it but not too bad. I kind of figured I'd want to redo this again in the winter with powder coat anyway. The paint was really just a cheap way for me to test out my color scheme and see if I really liked it before I spent the money on the powder coating. For now I'm just going to try and touch it up and leave it for the summer. I guess you can all look forward to this winters thread when I take my engine down even further (split the crankcase) and prep it for powder coating.
Here's a photo of where the leak is coming from.

Here's a photo of the damage it did to the paint.

Re: Popped my first cherry. FINISHED PHOTOS ADDED.
dont be pissed off Mike... its a simple leak, cut the hose off and get a tighter clamp.
If thats the worst of your problems after the first time you strip an engine, your doin well!

Hey Mike - I still don't see the word "titanium" under your name. Am I going to have to come out there & kick some ass??

Damn Norm, I'm going to have to start calling you Norm the Nazi. Funny thing is I was just thinking about that this morning while taking a shower. No joke. You see the problem is our family is on a pretty tight budget and all the money I spend needs to go through the wife. She doesn't like to support anything that encourages me to take apart my motorcycle. She about died of anxiety when I started my project. She had less faith in me than the guys at speedzilla. Anyway, I am doing a little side work, some logo designs for a friend, that I should get paid for soon so I should be able to make a donation out of that money when I get it.
BTW Norm I ordered your replacement o-rings and will be sending those back to you as soon as they come in.
