Any duc around Riverside, CA ?
 Hi everyone, this is Eric.
Recently bought a GT 1000, its 2007 with Black and Cream.
I got my permit last month, bought a Ninja 250, and learned how to ride on the same day.
After a month, thinking i might need something more powerful and something more classic since i am more into classic and 70's stuff, went to the dealership and get a GT.
What happens to the 250?
My girlfriend after has a taste of riding a bike, decides to take over the bike and starting riding it with me.
We live in Riverside area in socali.
Just wondering if anyone knows any good spot or route that is fun and probably safe for us, beginner, to ride.
Please share your opinion with us.
Really thank you!

Re: Any duc around Riverside, CA ?
I live in OC, so kind of near you. Sorry can't help with many rides that are newbie safe really. Santiago canyon isn't bad, but that's in OC. The only other stuff I know is through like Ramona expressway/hemet/san jacinto area.
If you've only been riding for a short time, I'd suggest 1) taking the MSF course and 2) sticking to the streets for now and not going out late at night. I think the Hurt report indicated most accidents happen after 11pm; something to consider. Ride early mornings when you can to avoid heavy traffic and ride on streets you're familiar with so you don't have to concentrate too much on what's around the next bend.
and welcome, by the way.
Andy

Re: Any duc around Riverside, CA ?
i'll ask around some of my buddies that are out that way, see if they know anything.
But one loop, part of route I've done by car is gilman springs, off the 60. take that down to ramona expressway, take that back west to 215. Gilman springs is pretty easy curves, two lane road through farm land and such. Ramona expressway takes you back through dairy farms, but it's also two-lane, but straight straight straight.
My inlaws live out in San Jacinto so I take that route by car very frequently and I'm planning to include it in part of a long moto ride soon.

Re: Any duc around Riverside, CA ?
As privateer mentioned Santiago canyon is pretty nice and perfect for beginners. Long sweepers no street lights and the occasional nice view. Easy to get to from riverside, maybe 20 minutes on the highway. 91 west then take tolls roads 261/241 to santiago canyon/chapman. Go left. You can ride it for 15- miles or so. At cooks corners you can stop to look at all the harleys and the head up to the left to rancho santa margarita. You probably get another 5-10 miles after cooks. Once you hit the main roads turn back to same way you came. You can get there via the 55 as well just get off at chapman and go left until it turns into santiago canyon. Overall it a nice 20-25 mile stretch each way (from the toll roads). Have fun and wheels down [thumbsup]

Re: Any duc around Riverside, CA ?

Thanks Andy and Jay
I would definitely try that route.
btw
I went to Malibu last sunday.
Its my first time rode my bike up to the mountain.
Scary at first, but after awhile it just felt good.
Before we got to Malibu, me and my two other friends, they also have Ducati too, one S4R and one 620, we saw another S4R passed us on the 1 highway near Santa monica.
It was pretty fun that day.

Re: Any duc around Riverside, CA ?
I forget, how are the routes around Cook's Corner? I took them once when I was new to riding and they didn't seem too bad. I don't even remember the names of the roads though.

Depending on which way you go.. it's either from the 5 or PCH, Crown Valley Park way to Antonio to Live RSM Parkway, to Live Oak to Santiago (that's where Cook's is), or you can go up El Toro Road from the 5. Live oak is a fun little 2 lane with trees grown over the whole road. El Toro is a 4 lane suface street for most of it.
If you want to come into Santiago from the 'top' you'd go off 55 freeway at Chapman, and go east, cross jamboree and that's Santiago. There are other ways into it, but those are the most common.
It's a pretty easy ride. Live Oak is a little challenging because you can't see through all the turns, there's no shoulder, debris in the road sometimes, and lots of T intersections and driveways. But fun nonetheless.
regards
Andy

Re: Any duc around Riverside, CA ?
I'm in also in Riverside, Downtown specifically. I don't know how confident you are on your bike yet, but if you are there is that stretch of the 60 fwy between MoVal and Banning, short but fun. Then there is Reche Canyon Rd, which I haven't done yet but want to. Have fun, be safe.
