Default Help, Broke down and modded...CVC ?'s.

Hey Gang,

I broke down and got a new pipe for my 675...

Anyway, what the fuck, now I get to relocate the plate, figure out signal mounting and license plate lighting and want to roll flush mounts in the front.

The pipe is not legal, got that.
I know you have to have illuminated plate, got that.

Do you have to run signals at all? Found this but...

22110. (a) The signals required by this chapter shall be given by signal lamp, unless a vehicle is not required to be and is not equipped with turn signals. Drivers of vehicles not required to be and not equipped with turn signals shall give a hand and arm signal when required by this chapter.

Are flush mounts (front) signals legal?

What about an integrated turn signal, rear brake dealy-o...a la Clear Alternatives...?

Anyway, I know I'll be askin' for it with the Two Brother's Pipe alone, but just wanted to check in 'bout the signals and possibilities...

jc

who cares? >

but seriously, I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm pretty sure the regulations are more about visibility of the signals than their mounting location. go with the CA integrated and some flushmounts and be done with it. [thumbsup]

I could be totally off but I recall something about signals having to be 8" away from tail light. Maybe it was 4... Maybe I'm just too sleepy. :

Not sure about the legality, but i thought I remember reading somewhere that hand signals (alone) were no longer legal on a moto.

My opinion on this is: I like my signals to be very clear and obvious, I know flush mounts, integrated looks bad-ass, but cagers are fooking stupid enough as is, why give them more of an excuse?

exactly.

there is some piece of documentation somewheres around here about the signals needing to be x inches apart.. which makes 'normal' signals required since the integrated board doesn't cover the requisite distance. i found it back when i had the s4r, then promptly ignored it. but it is a law/requirement. undoubtedly derby can find the reference =)

Thanks for nothing guys... [laugh]

Anyway, yeah, perhaps I'll just leave the blinkers stock, make the plate as visible as possible and live with it.

No doubt the pipe is going to call attention first, then all the other stuff may get cited as well when stopped.

Hey Derby, no El Segundo for me this week... :P

AFAIK, if your bike came with turn signals, it has to have them.

24951. (a) Any vehicle may be equipped with a lamp-type turn signal
system capable of clearly indicating any intention to turn either to
the right or to the left.
(b) The following vehicles shall be equipped with a lamp-type turn
signal system meeting the requirements of this chapter.
(1) Motortrucks, truck tractors, buses and passenger vehicles,
other than motorcycles, manufactured and first registered on or after
January 1, 1958.
(2) Trailers and semitrailers manufactured and first registered
between December 31, 1957, and January 1, 1969, having a gross weight
of 6,000 pounds or more.
(3) Trailers and semitrailers 80 or more inches in width
manufactured on or after January 1, 1969.
(4) Motorcycles manufactured and first registered on or after
January 1, 1973, except motor-driven cycles whose speed attainable in
one mile is 30 miles per hour or less.
The requirements of this subdivision shall not apply to special
mobile equipment, or auxiliary dollies.
(c) Turn signal lamps on vehicles manufactured on or after January
1, 1969, shall be mounted not lower than 15 inches.

I've heard that as long as the turn signals are seperated by at least the width of a dollar bill, they're OK.
YMMV....
