Scenic route up to SLO?
Hey guys, I came down for the day yesterday to see my girl and I'm leaving early-ish to head back to SLO. I'm thinking of taking the scenic route but don't really know what it is. Could someone help point out the route and gas stops, plz? I'm leaving from Torrance and heading to SLO.

Re: Scenic route up to SLO?
If you want scenic, take Pacific Coast Highway (HWY 1) all the way up. Runs pretty much near the ocean but gets a little boring at times. Plenty of gas stations along the way.

Re: Scenic route up to SLO?
Take PCH, throw in LAtigo to Mullholland, then hit the 101 & hang a right in Ventura towards Ojai. From there take the 33 to the 166 & that will put you in Nippomo where we met for gas
Have fun [thumbsup]

Re: Scenic route up to SLO?
Gus, what about 154 to foxen canyon?
Less traffic and usually zero LEO's
Or take the 33 all the way to the 58.

So kinda like this?
Route
I don't think I need to worry about LEOs much. I'm pretty pokey.

33 is pretty safe and a lot less traveled than PCH. Remeber to fill up at Ojai. I thought you wanted scenic.. ;D Desert vs. Ocean???!!!!

Re: Scenic route up to SLO?
Is the 33 mountain top twisties or valley twisties?
And if it is mountain roads, is a lot of it cliffside?

Re: Scenic route up to SLO?
The 33 has both: Mountain top twisties and valley twisties. The majority of the fast curves are valley twisties. The side-of-the-mountain turns are slower/tighter radius. However, the drop-off is significant in these areas, so proceed with caution. Basically the first 1/3 of your ride leaving Ojai is mountain twisty, the second 1/3 is valley twisty, and the final third as you decend towards the 166 is mountain twisty again.
Be careful on the final 1/3 as you decend the mountain heading towards New Cuyama. This area tends to have a decent amount of dirt/gravel in the corners during the winter and early spring since it is not as heavily traveled as the portion closer to Ojai.
Have a safe ride!
