Re: Streets of Willow Sun Dec 11
Luca,
I just signed up for the 11th just because I thought it would be fun to ride with you all. I really don't like the Streets very much, but I figure I could learn something from riding the tighter track. I've been focussing too much on the Big Track...
I'm racing on the 20th, if I decide to do the 26th as well it will be a last-minute affair.
Oh, and everybody bring some wool caps and shawls, it should get pretty cold...

Re: Streets of Willow Sun Dec 11
All lights are coming off.
I run a K&N oil filter, so safety wiring that is cake.
That WERA list is a bit over the top IMO. *:
Over 25k miles and next to nothing has come loose.
I'll likely just remove the whole sidestand, no need to risk the cases.
Got front and rear stands, so I'm set there.
My concern on the water-wetter, ripped from the website:
FREEZING POINT DEPRESSION
Red Line WaterWetter® does not significantly reduce the freezing point of water.
If the vehicle will see freezing temperatures, an antifreeze must be used.
Water expands approximately 9% upon freezing which can cause severe engine damage.
Even in summertime, the use of air-conditioning can blow freezing air through the heater and cause freezing of the heater core unless approximately 20% antifreeze is used with WaterWetter®.
For maximum temperature reductions use the most water and the least antifreeze possible to prevent freezing in your climate.
I've been up in the desert at night that time of year, if I stay overnight I don't want those problems.
What do the Willow regulars do?

Re: Streets of Willow Sun Dec 11
Luca, Luca, Luca,
If you're thinking about riding/driving up to hang out you really need to get out on the track. It's really not a big deal. You're a very fast street rider so this will not be a stretch for you at all. Tape up the 800 and lets get busy. If time is a real concern just ride until 2 or so and leave early. You of all people are going to be hooked the minute you get out there. >
Linda,
I did level one of the Cal Superbike program but have been considering checking out CLASS prior to commiting to the rest of the Cal SBK program. Let me know when you're thinking about checking it out as I may join you.

nick, FWIW i used to take my bike up with water drained and fill it in the morning. yes bad things can happen with water wetter. i would not worry about changing the water out for a track day if i were you, its no big deal, for most track days. if you have safety wire or other questions feel free to call or pm me. i would use a hose clamp on the oil filter rather than wiring the nut on the bottom, its more secure and the hose clamp is really easy.
MAKE SURE YOUR DRAIN PLUGS ARE SECURE before going on the track, and let some air out of those tires, ask a racer with your tires for pressures for your tires for that day but 29 front and 31 rear is the norm from what i remember for cold weather.

It's the other way around. And I go down as far as 28psi in the rear when it's really cold.
However, do check with someone who's actually running your brand of tires. Michelin has been recommending some crazy stuff, like 24psi in the rear...

Re: Streets of Willow Sun Dec 11
I want to sign up for Sunday, but there is one problem. I don't want to have to saftey wire up a buch of shit, i have no idea how to do it, water wetter, do I really need that. At my last track day I just showed up with nearly bald tires and they said "GOOD TO GO" none of this other stuff needed to be done.
Someone convince me this is a no brainer so I can sign up....

Re: Streets of Willow Sun Dec 11
it appears that you only have to safety wire your oil filter. i'll do it for ya.
i'd definitely recommend draining the rad and putting in water/water wetter. antifreeze is second only to oil in the sh!tty-stuff-to-have-to-clean-off-the-track department.
you'd be really pissed if you went down in somebody else's slickness so repay the favor and make sure nobody goes down in yours.
