S4rs accidental wheelie never happens??
so i've done an accidental wheelie before, on a kawasaki 636 (only happened once though, and on a crest)
i figured with my ducati it would be inevitable and i would have to learn how to handle them. i always have my foot on the rear brake waiting for it to happen but it's been six months.
maybe you have to try to do one? http://www.ducatimonster.org/smf/ind...?topic=76643.0 and i can quit worrying that i am going to get a surprise one of these days???

My S4 ('01) does it all the time. Slightly geared down, but nothing dramatic. Particularly getting away at the lights...... So I'm guessing a S4RS would be a wheelie monster!

Re: S4rs accidental wheelie never happens??
I've never got a full on wheelie but aggressive exceleration on a crest or coming out of a lean has resulted in the wheel slightly rising above the ground - AKA losing contact - AKA "wheelie" and I've only got a 620 . . .
So I gotta think you'd get true accidental wheelies from anything bigger and better.

Re: S4rs accidental wheelie never happens??
You pretty much have to be at full throttle to do a power wheelie. You shouldn't be using full throttle, especially on a bike as powerful as an S4RS, unless you're very aware of what you're doing. There really shouldn't be any surprise wheelies on it.
I rode a co-worker's M900 once with high compression pistons, 944 kit, and FCR carburetors that seemed to be able to do "accidental wheelies". You couldn't get the throttle all the way open in first gear and keep the front wheel on the ground on that thing. The owner had mentioned an unintentional wheelie in third gear. I didn't find it too easy to get up in second gear, but didn't spend a lot of time trying.
The places where you need to be extra careful of using a lot of throttle is where the road drops away, whether that's because you went over a rise first or just because it drops down all of the sudden. Full throttle will keep the front wheel on the original trajectory as the rear drops, which can result in you looping the bike if you're not paying attention. I knew a guy with one of those Kawasaki 750 turbos that did that at a railroad crossing once. In fact, I almost did that with a DR-350S at a railroad crossing myself once. Crossing intersections with crowned roads, like they are here in Pleasanton, will give you the drop away effect. I used to do second-gear power wheelies on the way to work when crossing Hopyard Road on a regular basis on the M900 I used to ride. Now that the Monster is gone I don't do such things anymore. :-[
If you're judicious about when you give the bike full throttle, you shouldn't have to worry too much about accidentally getting the front end up.

Re: S4rs accidental wheelie never happens??
It happened to me once on a loaner bike. I was riding with a group on a highway, toward the back of the pack, and I figured I'd see what the big motor could do. We were doing ~60mph and I was in 3rd. I kicked it down to 2nd and whacked it open and the front end definitely started to head skyward as the scenery started rushing by. Now that was fun.

Re: S4rs accidental wheelie never happens??
I did one accidental wheelie on my 05 S4R.
There was an attractive girl walking down the street and I gave it to much throttle in first gear and I did a power wheelie.
I only had it off the ground a few inches for a few seconds till I figured out what I was doing and backed off lol
I have a 14t up front so that helped a bit.

HaHA! Sweet.
I'm still getting used to my 998. I've done a couple non-accidental, very ungraceful wheelies. You know, the kind where you crank the throttle, the front comes up, and then you cut the gas and the font slams back down to the ground. Have yet to impress anyone with my wheelie skillz.

Ouch. Do that a few times and the boys really start to complain!

That was my second wheelie attempt out come.
Luckily I was practicing in the parking lot at my work pretty late at night so no one saw me spear my boys on the tank :-\

That's cool. For some reason, I am always smooth on the throttle.
I love to accelerate onto freeways and out of corners, but just can't seem to whack it open (seems unnatural) so I guess I should just relax and not worry about the accidental wheelie.
It's ~$500 but I think I am going to go to wheelie school this coming summer just to get some education =)
