Body position plays as much of a part in wheelies as throttle control.

If you keep your body over the front, you won't wheelie unless you really get on it (outside of first gear).

If you scoot back on the seat, and extend your arms, I'll bet you can loft the front wheel with 1/4 throttle in 1st, and 1/2 throttle in 2nd, if you get to the right engine speed.

On my 749 it happened to me only if I was on it hard... on my RC it happens all the time .

accidental wheelies are awesome. I was next to a girl in her PT cruiser and decided to gun it. I got the front off the ground atleast 3 feet. I was staring at my gas cap and the front came down when i ran out of rpms. It was sick. The girls didnt see it though.

Still made me piss my pants, ive done alot of accidental wheelies on my S2R1000, only 1 intentional one though.

That wasn't an accidental wheelie, it was a hormone-induced wheelie. Big difference!

Had half a dozen of 'em in my first 12 months, worst one was at 10 kph (slowing for the red), saw the lights changing, thought I'd slip between the 2 cars, one of them a wrx thingy who hammered it when he saw me. Anyway, gave a bit too much the tank hit me in the chest almost winding me. Lucky I was close to home, didn't have to go far to change my pants. [laugh]
Haven't got the balls to deliberately pop one.
It's only a 2V (got to stop saying that)

Never pulled a wheelie on my S4Rs intentionally or otherwise. The front has gone light a couple of times, especially if you are a bit rough with the clutch so the possibility is there. Also be careful with a pillion.

I did run into the rev limiter in second gear while at full throttle which caused all sorts of flailing handlebars and general loss of control so that is something else to watch out for. [laugh]

Save your money on that Wheelie school. These S4Rs will wheelie in 3rd with stock gearing. It does take practice tho. Try rolling along in 2nd gear at about 5500 - 6000 rpm. Back off slightly on the throttle & then nail it WOT. If U R sitting right, the front wheel will be in the air.
If that doesnt work try giving it a slight tug on the bars while hitting WOT. Be fricken carefull tho. Your 1st reaction when U do get the front wheel air born will be to back off on the throttle,,,,This will cause extreme pain on the "Boys" (as fellow members have indicated)
When U get a feel for it,, U will be able to ride it out with throttle control.

Good luck chuck

It's ~$500 but I think I am going to go to wheelie school this coming summer just to get some education =)
You could lift the front of your bike, even being smooth on the throttle - just be a little quicker in you smooth turning of the throttle Even with a smooth, but slightly *sporting* roll-on you'll be able to get the front wheel of that bike off the ground in lower gears. Might not be a full blown 12 o'clock stunta wheelie - but I assure you, you can be on one wheel.

I've got a mildly tweaked up 900ie that's now go no problems lifting up witha goose in 1st and will get the front up a bit rolling-on in 2nd. And a 900's got a lot less oomf that your desmoquatro

Accelerating out of corners is what you should be doing, but whacking the throttle (which you don't do) is a bad plan. Seem like you've got that part right.

There is no such thing as an "accidental" wheelie

They are - in fact - an subconcious manifestation of your inner hooligan > ..... embrace it

I picked up my S4RS with full Termi system this last June coming from a Honda 929. The Honda would accidentally wheelie quite often if I didn't pay attention to where I was in the rev range. The Duc will wheelie whenever I might choose but I have had far fewer accidental front wheel skyward incidents. My experience: I think the big twins have a lot more power down low that doesn't hit as hard as the inline 4s. It's a lot easier to dial in the power I want regardless of the RPMs so the front tire does more of what I want. And I'm sort of old and a pus so I like keeping the front down whenever possible. That means less WTO but still rapid corner exits

But the inner hooligan is never all that far away...
