I say take it to the track and don't go over your head. If you need to sit out a session do so but don't ride the track when uncomfortable.

Besides, the track is the best way to get to know your bike. Machines are replaceable.

I just did my first 2 track days on my Monster 2 weeks ago. It was great

I say no worse, and maybe better than riding on the street. It's really up to you. If you ride and focus on your own ride, you should have a great time. If you try to race or keep up with faster riders, you're likely to get in over your head. That's when accidents happen. Leave your ego home and you'll really enjoy it.

Take the Monster to the track. You can stretch-out the bike, and you'll learn to control it better. If you're exploring the "limits" on the street, you're a hazard to yourself and others.

Over the course of a 2 day weekend there were 4 bikes off the track. 1 was just a run wide (novice group), 1 was a low-side and collar bone (novice group), 1 was a low-side with no injury (intermediate group), 1 was a low-side that became a full-on barrel roll. No injury but bike was destroyed (expert group).

I saw one scuff on the bikini fairing from a flying object. That was it after 2 full days.

If you have any more questions about going for the first time, just ask.
