Schumi gets his first podium on 2 wheels.
Looks like it was more than the Ducati's "electronics" that made him fast last year. He placed this time on a CBR1000RR.
I love this guys desire to race. He qualifies first but since his 2 pro riding buddies get pushed to the back of the grid (penalty for no transponders) he decides to start there too. They finish 1,2,3 with Schumi 3rd.

Re: Shumi gets his first podium on 2 wheels.
Here's a youtube vid of it. I don't speak the language but the footage seems to be equal parts race practice footage, schumi bio and commercial, and schumi bashing for being a prick to the fans.

Is Hungary known for having fast racers?

Re: Schumi gets his first podium on 2 wheels.
According to the articles and blogs about it it sounds like most of the racers were Advanced and a number were German SB and/or SSport riders. He was riding another racers bike with unmarked fairings.

Re: Schumi gets his first podium on 2 wheels.
Sounds a bit suspicious... those two guys lapped 6 seconds a lap faster than Schumacher, but he beat the rest of the field??
Jason Pridmore showed up at our club and he was only lapping about 1-2 seconds faster than the rest of the field...

Re: Schumi gets his first podium on 2 wheels.
according to what i read the track lap record is 1.53, the winner ran a 1.55 and schumi was around a 2.03 (2.0 in qualifying).
they all had transponders and the track posts its race results on the web. It's all there if you're interested - one of the links will lead you there.

Re: Schumi gets his first podium on 2 wheels.
Okay... 10 seconds off the track record... not shabby. Sounds like he's slightly better than me. I think I was 12 seconds off the track record at Infineon last year... I was 8 seconds off the track record at Buttonwillow this weekend, but the level of competition that comes through the track is not equivalent to what comes through Infineon.
Actually, that's probably a bit of what's going on with Schumacher, as well. I don't know how competitive that particular track is, but I would suspect it doesn't see the same level as places like Brno, etc, etc.
Still, not bad at all for a 4-wheel guy.

Re: Schumi gets his first podium on 2 wheels.
andy meklau and martin bauer aren't slouches.
bauer is the german superbike champion and meklau is a former 500gp and worldsuperbike racer.
iirc, schumacher was .5sec faster than everybody in the field except these two guys.
btw, if you consider the fact that they started from the back row, these times were done in traffic.

Okay. Fine. I admit. The man is good on two wheels.
I don't like saying that about car guys -- hence all my hemming and hawing.
