Default F1 - The Official DML 2008 Season Thread (Spoiler Alert)

And no traction control. Those cars were a slip sliding all over Albert Park in FP2. Tonight should be live qualifying and a race on Saturday night.

This years cars all look like they got a serious beat down from the ugly stick. Machett was saying that nexts rule changes should elimiate most or all of those stupid appendages. (at least i think thats what he was saying as i was drifting off to sleep with the TV on)

they've been saying that "next year's rules will lower the downforce by xx%" for the last 3 years or so. it hasn't slowed 'em down yet.

qualy is gonna be fun to watch tonight.

I did detect a note of hatred from most of the teams Peter Windsor interviewed about the new ECU. That'll playout good this year. Oh the drama!

i think it's more of a unfamiliarity issue.

...and maybe a tad of distrust since mclaren electronics built it. [cheeky]

speaking of windsor, did you catch that apology from wurz for the (non-) answer he gave on the grid at the final race last year? i thought that was pretty classy. he's a good guy and i'm glad he's found a job in f1 after his retirement. [thumbsup]

Yes I did. Wurz is a class act even if he's not the best racer. From what i've read of him, he's a degreed automotive engineer and is very well respected for his ablities as a test/development driver. Probably why Honda hired him.

Those green pants were hidious. That color belongs on a golf course, not pit lane.

I can't wait for turn 1 Saturday night. It's gonna be insane, and it'll show right away who's gotten things working. I hadn't heard about the downforce reduction until last night. I wonder how they'll enforce it? A limitation on wing area, or direct measurement of force via windtunnel testing or something. I just pray that they don't end up looking like Indy cars. Ugh.

So who do you guys think takes the pole and race? Based on recent history, I say Kimi for both, followed by Hamilton, Massa and Hekkie.

i think the previous reductions were based on wing area. what did the engineers do? make more efficient wings.

i doubt they'll measure absolute force, though.

after watching practice, i'd say hamilton for both...

however, given the way Q is being run this year (10m final session, NO refuel afterwards), fuel strategy can play into the final grid positions.

Im rooting for Kimi for the win. Heck pole too. I hope for good things at Honda now that Russ Brawn is tech director. Lessee if he can work the magic he did at Ferrari.
