let me just say this:

if the only word you people read in this press release is NASCAR, you're doing these people, their history in the sport, and the organization they work for a great disservice.

Halleluja!!

I'd have prefered a more motorcycle-centric owner, but heaven knows MacDonalds would be better owner than the AMA.

Great news!

Well, I didn't really catch thier motorcycle credentials, but I'll take your word for it.

My only issue with NASCAR is they don't do a whole lot on the international scene. I'm a firm believer that because US sports are very cut off from the rest of the world it hurts their competitor's international rankings. Take the case of US riders, the ones who make it big in the world are the one's who get out of US only series as soon as possible (Nicky Hayden excepted).

I'd love to see more world coverage of US road racing.

This could be really good for AMA, I hope they put it out there more.

Yes these guys have Nascar, but Nascar is the way it is because of fans, not their packaging. It isn't international because who the hell in the world beside Americans want to watch Monte Carlos go in circles?

ok, this may help:

jim france... former motorcycle racer/team owner... also "runs" moto-st, in addition to various car series that don't just go roundy round: http://www.grand-am.com/rolex/

roger edmondson: founder of CCS which had a partnership with the AMA in what became the 600ss/supersport series you see today. also got a shit-ton of money from the ama after they "stole" the series from him and pushed him out of the org.

plenty of motorcycle org history between these guys.

well that's a bunch of nonsense.

back on topic, yay. ama sbk may now survive, maybe even flourish, when mat & ben leave next year and hacking wins the title.. and then goes to NASCAR.

;D

you laugh, but it's not so far fetched... there is a history of motorcycle racers going to race NASCAR:

kevin schwantz
mike hale
miguel duhamel had a one-off ride last year

this is not an exhaustive list, btw.
