Re: MC-USA first ride on 450 single road race bikes
Hmmmmm.....
-Find CRF with popped engine on flea-bay for cheap.
-Send chassis to Service Honda for CR500 implant.
-Gather all the roadracing gear.
-Assemble.
-Laugh maniacally.

Re: MC-USA first ride on 450 single road race bikes
looks like you can build one for about 8k.
Are they using the stock crf swing arm? And stock triples with R6 forks?

stock swingarms. triples are unrestricted, but usually stock w/ stock sportbike forks.

Is $8k the cost of the bolt-ons or the bike and the bolt-ons?
Either way, $8k isn't all that cheap.

"cheap" is relative. they're comparing it to building a competitive 600 supersport racer.

I think its bike, minimal bolt ons, and all the fabbing/assembly yourself.
Compaired to the 14K sticker price, its a better deal.

Re: MC-USA first ride on 450 single road race bikes
Personally I would rather have the rumored/upcoming KTM RC4. 690cc Single. 78bhp. 290lbs. Based on the duke 3.
Can't tell if they have plans to import it stateside. The leaked report seemed to say no.
These dirtbike based singles seem cool, but everyone says they have geometry and/or suspension problems.
The RC4 is also a much cooler alternative to SV650s.
I am currently considering getting an SV for a track bike, and getting rid of my monster. Something that is also very depressing.
Life without sexy european bike = bad.
If I could have the RC4 instead, both sides would be happy.

but the 450 supersingles aren't street bikes. it's a formula mainly being devised as an "affordable" feeder class on the way to the bigger bikes like ama supersport. a relatively level playing field that can be used to evaluate the young guns coming up through the club racing ranks.
