Re: Racing a Monster
Rizoma makes rearsets for the older monsters. Check Motowheels.com for triples. I think they have Cyclecat's in stock. They also make them for the 53 mm superbike forks.

Re: Racing a Monster
I'm making progress.... I found some DP knock-off rearsets, got some Ohlins forks off an '03 999R, Ohlins billet lower triple, Speedymoto is making me a custom steering stem, I have a Speedymoto billet upper triple that I'm hoping will work, got a new Ohlins rear shock and am in the process of trying to figure out a feasible way to mount a 748 superbike tail section on it. I have an old SharkSkinz race upper and lower off of my 749R that I'm going to try using. Also have some mix-n-match Marvic mag wheels on the way. Once I get that all done, then I'll spend the winter working on the motor and it should be ready to roll in the spring. I'm going to take it out to a track day in a couple of weeks just to try it out and see how it goes. I rode an S4RS and a M695 on the track at Laguna Seca last week during the Ducati dealer meeting and that gave me some sense of how a Monster feels on the track, should be a fun project! Still don't know if I can keep up with that darn Paul Smart though..... :P

Re: Racing a Monster
Figured I'd revive this thread now that I'm making some more progress on the M900 race bike. Here's the newly powdercoated frame:

The motor is with Mark at DucShop getting 944'd, ported, polished, etc. I got a set of Carrozzeria forged Al wheels and will be test-mule-ing a set of the new Carrozzeria wave rotors. I decided to go with a 748 tail section which I've mounted to the Monster seat pan so I can easily mount it and remove it when I want, got a belly pan and a 748 upper and Fabri windscreen. Ohlins shock on the rear, and a set of 999R Ohlins forks, custom triples, and Brembo 4-pad calipers, Brembo radial master, along with a titanium front axle I had on hand. Also got a Sil-Motor spaghetti header system to go with the Leo Vince hi-mount pipes I have. You can see the spaghetti headers in the pic above after I had them jet-coated.
Probably won't have any more pics to post until I get the motor back in a month or so and can start putting the bike back together.
Anyone else out there racing a Monster this year?

Re: Racing a Monster
With the work you're doing you must not be keeping it SS legal. The CRA is allowing 900s into lightweight this year too. It has a few people I know going to the drawing board.
My race monster just got stripped down to the frame. I'm making a few changes. Another month or so and I'll have it done and fresh painted. I'll post pics before it hits the track this year.

Re: Racing a Monster
Yeah, it will be Superbike spec, I don't think a Monster would do well in Supersport trim. Pretty much all of my teammates are running Superbikes this year, we have 6 air-cooled Ducs running in the CCS Lightweight class now (4 SuperSports, 1 Paul Smart and 1 Monster). So we'll be racing in LW Superbike, LW GranPrix, Thunderbike and Supertwins (might have to use the 1098 for that one..... [thumbsup])

Re: Racing a Monster
Sorry, I don't have any input other than "I knew this guy that was racing an M900...". You might want to pm Ducman851 (I think that's his screen name), he used to race a Monster - and Mauro Deviassio raced one at WSMC as recently as last year. He's on this board, but doesn't check in much.
I think what you're doing looks and sounds really cool. Keep us updated on your progress!
Good luck,
-R.

Re: Racing a Monster
I am in the Same boat. I have a 600 Dark. I keep scraping my pegs all around the track. I would like to be buying a track bike, and thats what I am really trying to find. BUt, I would love to be racing my duck as opposed to anything else. My question is what class can I race in? Can I be competitive? How do I raise my rear end and front end? I don't just think my bike cannot be modified to be competitive.

It depends. I race a 620 in the CRA. It's very competitive in the Ultralight Supersport class. In fact, there are a lot of 620s on the grid now. Check with your local racing organization. Read their rulebook and see what class it fits.
As far as modifying yours...it can be done but it's a lot of work. I've done it http://www.ducatimonster.org/feature...red_feb06.html that's mine from a couple of years ago.
My advice is, do it yourself or you will pay a lot for someone else to. Or, just get a 620 supersport. They require less work to get set up.
