Triumph Bonneville
Guys, if you remember i was talking about an older Bonne' to buy from a mate. Well, i had a look at it and it's not too bad. A little rear wheel work needed and a good amount of polishing on most parts. It is actually an 82' model, anyone think that is a problem??
The seller only wants $1200, so all in all i think it's a good buy.
Any ideas??
Hugh

Re: Triumph Bonneville
82 you say. I would think it's not as, what's the word I'm looking for? "desirable' as a 60's or 70's model.
But if you like it, go for it!

Re: Triumph Bonneville
82 model should be a 5speed disc brake front bike. grab it, it's worth a lot more than $1200!!! considering they're mostly the same throughout you could part it and double your money easy!!

Re: Triumph Bonneville
Thanks Loony. My thoughts are, for $1200, i should just grab it - even if i have to spend another $1000 fixing it up, it's still a good buy.
Super- i do feel that something with a 60's-70's badge would be nicer....but then again it's the year i was born, so it's kind of cool.
I know some of you may cringe at this, but i'm going to go down the road of 'cafe racer' style....i will be keeping original parts w/nil chopping of frame, but looking to throw some clip-ons onto it(or similar), change the seat, new paint job(It's a little weathered looking), the side panels are already off it, so new air filter set-up, the pipes are already short with some sort of coating(but i am thinking about putting a wrap on it-for the look mainly), etc....
Oh yeah, the rear wheel is weathered a bit, as it was slightly exposed due to the cover, anyone know a good wheel man to restore it??
Hugh

Re: Triumph Bonneville
Go for it Hugh! [thumbsup]
You can buy new rims and put stainless spokes on the wheels.
Do the ring around and look in the motorcycle trader etc.
This must have been one of the last true Trumpys.

Re: Triumph Bonneville
Well, the trumpy is in my garage. Picked it up on wednesday ;D
Spent the first day cleaning and "autosol'ing" the metal - i still have a way to go on that one...
Haven't cranked it over yet. Don't want to do it until i'm happy with the external look of the engine(in case i have to pull it apart, don't want new oil and fuel through it). Will take the plugs out, crc in them, new oil, battery, fuel, fluids....and hopefully it will crank over - hopefully ???
Now i've spoken to DEUS and they gave me a couple of numbers for old Brit Bike blokes.
Few questions for y'all: 1-Does anyone here have solid experience with old Brit Bikes??
2-Anyone know where i can source components such as rearsets/handlebars for the bike. Looking to modernise certain parts, such as the aformentioned, the disc brakes, air filters etc.... whilst keeping it old skool.
Not trying to be lazy, as i am searching the net, but i figured if anyone is a guru here it would be greatly appreciated.
Hugh
