Default Buying a Second Monster in June

As some people may know, I am moving to your beautiful country in June of this year (from Canada).

After some consideration, it has been decided that my 800 will not be accompanying me right away. I might have it shipped over in a couple years. :'(

The upside is that I will be buying a new monster once I get there.

First off - I am buying new - I loves me some warranty.
And, although the 800 is a perfect bike for me, I can't justify to myself owning 2 of the exact same bike - Even if they still made that model for 08.

It's going to be a 1000 or an S4R >
Also, I will probably pick one up in Melbourne as they seem to be a little cheaper in Vic.

Does anyone know if the dealers in Melbourne have demo models? I would like to try out both and see which would suit me best.

Also, Does anyone have any FHE with Ducati City or any other dealers in the area?

Thirdly, who wants to go for a cruise with a Canuck? I would appreciate someone showing me where the twisties are. It might even earn you a beer or two.

Melbourne dealers: http://www.ducati.com.au/dealersState.php?state=6

Zagame:

You will notice 'request a testdrive' down the bottom of the page.

Ducati Melbourne (NFI):

Metro Ducati (30km out of town!)

Finance:

(notice that you can email them your situation and see what they say!)

(phone only)

Regarding finance: if you need calls made - drop me a line and some detailed information regarding your situation and I'll gladly call the above companies....I also just finished a home loan for a guy who specializes in vehicle finance.

And I'm down here in Melbourne, very new to the sport and have started to explore the area a little, depending how confident I am feeling closer to the date I'll gladly go on a ride - but might slow you down a bit!

Ducati City have some bikes to test ride, I was on them a couple of months ago anyway. They are right in the City as well which may be convenient for you, Zagame aren't far away either. Are you going to be in Melbourne long SKoM?

Hey Spider, if you want to go for a nice sedate ride, I'm going for a spin with my brother-in-law this Saturday if it's not raining. He's got a Triumph Bonniville and still getting his confidence up. We're in Coburg and will just head out north-ish if thats any help.

I was thinking of going to Warbarton then reefton...marysville...etc this would be a good starting mission - eventually I'd like to sedately head up the black spur - all with SKoM in mind.

Last weekend I did Dromana, Arthur's seat, redhill back into Dromana then along the esplenade to Mornington, into Frankston and back along Beach rd to St Kilda then home to Malvern. Good for me - bit boring I imagine for a Canuck.

Could be good???

I did that run with Ita about a month ago. It was on a Monday so not much traffic. Came back along the Black Spur, was magic, it's brilliant now it has been resealed [thumbsup]

if you're going to buy a new one when you get here you would be much better off flogging your current bike before you leave, the cost of freighting it and the expense and hassle of compliance and registering it once you get it here will be huge!!!! not to mention the chance of it being damaged, etc.etc. besides, once you ride a bigger monster with more power, better brakes, suspension etc you will lose interest in a smaller version of the same thing pretty quickly, unless, of course, you have some kind of emotional attachment for whatever reason..............

Thanks again for all the good info. [thumbsup]

I plan on being in Melbourne for about a week then off to my new job in Adelaide (and to find a place to live :-\ )

Loony - Damn you! You make some really good points. It is hard for me to justify not selling the 800. I suppose there is some emotional attachment (first Ducati) there.
Also, I will be back in Canada once a year and for the time being it would be pretty cool to have a bike waiting for me right next to the Rocky Mountains.
Selling it would be the logical thing to do however. Oh well, I will mull it over.

Spider - I think I will take you up on your offer. I'd like to get back on 2 wheels with minimal delay. Also, don't worry about slowing me down - I'll be limited to 5500rpm for the break-in anyway

and I seem to be limited to 6500 rpm as I get broken in!

See you soon!
