Just after some information on riding the Oxley Hwy. Have heard its am awsome ride.
Has anyone here ridden it and if so please advise whats the best route?
Should we do the entire road from near Armidale to Wauchope and back or ????
Will be coming from Brisy, so will approach from Armidale direction and head east.

Any advise appreciated.

There is a road called Thunderbolts Way. I have been told you head North on this road from Newcastle way.

Can't help, but I have also heard good things about this road (and thunderbolts) I will need to plan my next long trip to go north to take in a number of great roads between syd and bris. I have heard that the oxley is better one way than the other due to the amount of heavy laden trucks in the one direction, but this may be a biker-fable-only-to-be-retold-at-a-pieshop kinda thing.

paging bigiain! he'll know

This is one of the best rides you can do - We did it as part of the Turismo 2006 and a group of us went up again last year. See if you can get hold of the Tusismo 2006 maps as they go a great way)

Come to it via Walcha on the top of the mountains (Thunderbolts is fast fun) and the head down to Port Maquarie By the way do the trip from Walcha to Port a few times if you can as it is awsome. You can stop at a great little bikers cafe and enjoy some food. Take extra uel if you can too as if the cafe does not have fuel you can run out, I did.... (that was on my S2R1k).

I want to do it again soon and am planning a trip up there in the near future with some friends.

Ciao,

R_usty

Did the 'Oxley' a couple of years ago with a small group of mates, it was an absolute blast, the tighter it got the better it got, well for me on my old girl, I was with a '97 fireblade, 05 gsxr, '01 zxr, '07 916/996, and a '05 Aprilia Tuono.
As you can see quick company indeed, I remember being flat knacker on the tank at the western end of the Oxley and the rest of my 'mates' sucking the paint off as they came flying past, fuck I nearly hopped off just to see why I had stopped.
We came up Thunderbolts Way via the Putty, got chased by a storm all the way into Nundle, stayed there the night, then up to Tamworth on some nice back roads (got lost a little bit but didnt mind) then east along the Oxley, stayed overnight at Wauchope (I dont recomend any pubs to stay at here)then 3/4 back up the Oxley to a turn off that lead us back to the coast via Gloucester to Nabiac, have a look at the bike museum it very good stayed overnight there, then back inland towards the Putty and south towards home.
So four days of absolute fun, we did this on Melbourne cup week as we thought that at certain times the er... olice: might be busy elsewhere.
Grab a map plan a rough route, stay at some pubs, and have some fun... I did.
