Purchasing Gear from the U.S.
I have a relative going to the U.S next week and they have offered to pick up some gear for me when they are there. Wondering if there is an advantage doing this considering you can buy just about anything over the net these days. I understand I will not have to pay shipping, with the aussie $ doing so well bargains can be had. Was thinking of getting a riding jacket. Does anyone have experience with this? And if I would be better off can you recommend any store/location?

Re: Purchasing Gear from the U.S.
Buying from the States is never a problem, all the sponsors of DML ship here and yes as you said it's just a matter of cost.
As for recommendations I guess it depends on where you relo's are going?
I bought back a bunch of stuff when I was in Canada last year, tried to save myself some postage to home.
Didn't really happen as Canada Post pinged me on import tax from the U.S. so got dudded.
I'd be careful buy riding gear though as you never know how it may fit when it arrives?
Parts are a different are a far easier prospect in MHO.
cheers
Matty...

As Matty said - just be sure to try on the gear here first to get an idea for sizing.
I wear a 48 for dainese jackets but am a 50 for A* ones - and be sure to give them the right name and size for whatever it is you are planning on buying

Re: Purchasing Gear from the U.S.
I'm thinking of getting a ducati jacket, Those sizes would all be the same huh?
If the stuff just gets put into their bags there would be no taxes etc?

Your right there would be no taxes.
Just make sure the sizing is correct and the model #'s match up.

Re: Purchasing Gear from the U.S.
a GOOD leather jacket weighs a fair bit* - that will be a chunk out of their carry on limit, they must like you a bit!
*a jacket for a bloke who is 2 meters tall this is....probably a bit less for normal folk (or 'the little people' as we call you when you're not around).

Parts are never a problem, they have a measurement and you know if they will fit or not.
Clothing is what I'd be a little shy about.

Re: Purchasing Gear from the U.S.
get your mate to wear it onto the plane, then stuff it in an overhead locker for the trip, saves the extra weight being added. you can get it duty free as well but there is a limit to how much you can claim so you may miss out if your mate wants some tasty duty free too.

Thats so funny Loony [clap], the relative going overseas is actually my in-laws. The thought of my mother in-law boarding the plane in a Ducati Motard jacket is Hysterical. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]. She would probably be arrested at LAX and questioned [laugh] [laugh]
