Default Saturday 5/03 (sub-topic of "New Rider" post) ***Pics Added***

Hi All,

There's been a bunch of info posted in Cdawg's "new rider" post so I wanted to start a new thread specifically about this Saturday 5/03. I'll be rolling between 8 - 9am (unless Cdawg can make it at 7), heading out of NYC via the Holland tunnel. I'm going to cut through Hoboken and head up 9w towards Rockwells (to check out some gear). Pace will be relaxed.

Weather looks like it's going to be ok until mid-late afternoon. I plan on being back by 2 or so. PM if interested.

Best,
Keith

If the weather continues to hold I expect that I will be riding this Weekend. Right now Cold Springs has a low of 50 degrees and a 30% chance of rain.

Depending on the final group assembled by Keith, I may not be a good fit for Saturdays ride. My preference for roads this Saturday will be more geared towards riders who are comfortable with counter-steering and less 101.

Regarding routes/destination I feel pretty conflicted between going shopping and riding new roads:

I have the highest regards for Nick and the boys @ Rockwell but I am tempted to check out Cliff's open house. That doesn't mean we couldn't ride up together part way. Depending on your break in status and comfort, I would be tempted to take in 106 and 218 on the way.

On the other hand, Saturday looks to be the only good day this weekend and I still have a laundry list of new roads to evaluate. A tentative route would be to take Palisades to 106 to 17A to Warwick then check out Clinton Road, CR-699, CR 620, CR 605, 186, 206, CR 513 then I-78 or US 22 to home. If anyone have ridden the Clinton to CR 513 stretch, please let me know if it is worth it.

Hey C, so far it's myself and tentatively 2 other riders, waiting on final PM from both. One of the riders is new and I'm totally cool with that based on the type of ride I'm planning on. I'll PM you once I know exactly whats going on and perhaps we can ride together at least part way. If not, no worries we'll get together for an early morning excursion over the coming weeks.

I'm no help on the roads you're looking at hitting man, sorry. This season I plan on heading North quite a bit but the last couple of years most of my distance riding has been with a good buddy of mine that has a house in PA. We spent most of our weekends riding out that way.

Just discovered that Rockwell has a tail bag that I want to check out so I'll be heading north on Saturday.

Cool man, Rockwells opens at 9 so I'm good to roll by 7 as long as it's not raining.

Look for a PM shortly [thumbsup]

Cool! What's the group mix? We could take the long way up via 106 but it's technical.

It's looking like us 2 early risers and I'm waiting for final word on my buddy (749) and new rider Shawn on another duc. I may have to stick to my original plan of heading through Hoboken; that's where we would meet up with Shawn. I'll know for sure by tomorrow. Fingers crossed on the weather...

Sending PM now with phone#...

Cdawg & Shawn H, awesome meeting you guys and riding today [thumbsup]. Overall a pretty soggy, miserable day but we certainly made the best of it. I tell you what, 8 hours in the saddle, in the wet, did me in but I'm glad we did it nonetheless.

CDawg, awesome monster! Thanks for sharing the lead/sweep responsibilities and for bringing along the GPS. The PACE principals you practiced today were very cool and I see myself putting them to use from here on out.

Shawn H, beautiful 750 (mickey mouse ears and all ;D). You were a trooper today man and I'm glad you got your first wet ride in! Excellent exercise in throttle control.

Again, thanks to both of you for coming along today. Lets do it again soon.

Oh, here are the pics from outside Cafe Spanish 101, remember to point [laugh]...
