Re: It begins
Have you done them before? I remember reading it was actually easier on a 4v engine.

Can I just say publicly that I am F-ing JEALOUS as hell you have that kind of quality garage space to do that! >
That's the one thing that really bugs me about living here - the inability to work on my cars and bike.

Re: It begins
Cripes, it's about fricking time. If you need a hand just lemme know, I'll be over there anyway to take care of Cru's pussycat while he's away.
Does this mean you'll be out on Sunday? Been pretty much behaving these last few rides w/o you along. I mean, who else am I gonna try to run off the road and stall their bike? Cru? Pat? Diz?, No, that's just rude.

Tommy,
Where in NYC do you live? There a couple of motorcyle garages (waiting list, unfortunately) where you have 24 hr access, air, oil drum, sinks, air blasters, individual outlets, etc...you can usually leave all your tools and gear in the garage. Security's tight so nobody needs to lock up anything...pretty close to slice bread.

Had issues last night so couldn't work on the bike, your mom wouldn't let me go cause she couldn't get enough. I'll be there tonight around 6:30 - 7pm though, I'll give you a call.
unfortunately I'll be out this Sunday, no way I can finish the bike by then. :'(

Re: It begins
are you checking the valve clearence only or doing the belts also? I've always wondered, checking the valves might be task i could attempt but what if they were out of spec..that i dont think i could manage.

Re: It begins
I'm gonna check the clearances on all the valves and change shims as needed. Changing out the shims doesn't seem to hard from what I've read and seen, it's just time consuming and meticulous. If you think you can check your valves I'm guessing you can change shims.
Changing the belts regardless of condition just so I know when they were put in and that they are new. oil change and coolant change. Gonna check the plugs and change if needed.
Figure will probably just measure out clearances tonight and write down everything. Then tomorrow take out whichever shims are out of spec and bring them into a shop for an exchange Saturday. Slapped all back together hopefully around Sunday with the valves and belts done, depending on how quick I can get those shims. Then Monday oil, coolant and plugs. [thumbsup]
