Default Typical mentality of a L.A. cager

RIP for that rider, what's amazing is the comments below the article. As you can see typical L.A. drivers are psychotic at best, absolutely no sympathy or consideration for another human being, let along riders. Not to say all riders are responsible and faultless (just like this one guy I saw lane splitting during rush hour on the 405, wearing nothing but his tattoos weaving in and out ) but the comments just shows how L.A. drivers think..scary..extra care on our part I suppose and remember that "Every car is going to kill me mentality" when riding in SoCal.

I'm more inclined to attribute it to John Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory than all LA cagers being sociopaths.

i ride the 101 (even busier than many parts of the 405) nearly every day and the only way to get to work is split lanes.i ride past the 405 on my way in.

If you read the comments from the LA drivers after the article that you posted you would want to move to anther country hoping people like each other more than people in Los Angeles do. I'm sad how any one can say "I'm glad a rider is dead" or any of the other insensitive comments.

i had someone open their door the other morning as i was approaching, i wasn't speeding or weaving, just riding legally between lanes trying to get to Hollywood.

that was the saddest thing Ive read in years.

Man this is just sad...almost make me ashamed that I even own a 4 wheeled vic. hopefully someday people will realize that were on the road as well and they need to look twice. Untill that day i'll keep using my reinforced gloves, and people will keep losing the mirrors they never use >=)

I'll just counter a bit with my experience. I have lived in SoCal pretty much all my life, and been riding there daily for 24 years. L.A., San Diego, all over, for over 300K total and over 40K of lanesplitting. I have never had anyone open their door on me, or try to actually harm me while lanesplitting. Once in a while someone will honk his horn after I go by. A few times a month, I'll get someone riding the line trying to block me from getting past, and I just pick a different lane and path and go around anyway.

The great majority of people are oblivious rather than malicious. Breaking off people's mirrors does not help the situation for anyone.

I understand Marine's point about the mirrors, i do want to do that some times as well but i dont.

I did get a great pair of gloves with carbon fiber over the knuckles, so i will knock on the rear quarter panel of the cars that are squeezing me over into the #2 lane, it gets their attention without scratching the car.

California is the only US state that allows lane splitting from what I understand, and i really cant imagine getting to work or home without being able to do it.

I wish I could lane split here, but then again I don't know if i would since people here are bad enough as it is. Also i would like to say that i DO NOT condone knocking off mirrors...i personally have only done it 3 times, and the 1st nearly broke my wrist (CF knukles alone are not enough lmao). If you read this and think "oh great idea, i'll take the next jerks mirrors off" think twice if thats what you really want to do.....could be bad if home boy rolls up next to you at a stop light.

WOW that article is even worse than reading comments about politics... RIP

Cagers are reduced to infants on the road, I have been the victim of the road rage myself... I will ALWAYS put the value of human life and the safety of others first... I wish everybody could experience it from OUR point of view before they start talking shit.
