Default A little help.

Okay, my younger brother is looking to get a bike. His first actually, yes he is one of those "gas prices drove me to it", But he is a gear head and loves all things machine so I'm not too worried about him acting too stupid on a bike. He can't afford a monster yet and really doesn't want to start out on something that aggressive anyway. But he is thinking of a Buell Blast. Any thoughts on these. I don't know a whole lot about them other than they are cheap used. Do they hold up, and is it a bike he'd be happy with for two or three years? Are they dependable (as a harley can be he..he)? Also he is considering a new ninja 250r because the obvious warranty and they are super cheap new, but he is a little hesitant just due to the fact that he doesn't want to wipe out a new bike or anything like that, and I totally understand that. He really doesn't like the '87-'07 ex-250 ninja style, so these are pretty much his interests. He does want a sport type bike though. Any other references or ideas? Thanks.

I would go for the Ninja 250r, for three reasons.

1. I started out on one and they are fantastic bikes for all levels of experience and it is still fun to ride even after I have become accustomed to a more powerful bike.

2. If gas prices are the true reason he wants a motorcycle than you can't find a more economical sport bike. My old 05 Ninja 250 got 75+ miles per gallon and was capable of keeping up with the bigger bikes as well.

3. It isn't a Buell

By the time he spends money on bike, gear and the inevitable "mods", he won't be saving ANY money on gas. . . trust me!
It's all a myth!

The lil ninja is stoopid fun to ride.

the buell blast is an uninspired slug of a bike.

if gas is the foremost priority, get a vespa

+1. The Blast sucks.

The Ninja 250 is reliable and flickable.

What about a used GS500E? Clipons and Cafe'?

+2 The Blast sucks. He could easily learn on that bike but will tire of it VERY quickly.
