Heart rate monitors
Looking for suggestions, anyone currently use a heart rate monitor when working out/training. I want one that can record heart rate over time and then be able to download to PC. Been looking through specs but their sort of vague. Any experience make? model?

pick up a Polar HRM. pick a model that fits your needs and budget. i've used them for years of competitive cycling and triathlon.

Re: Heart rate monitors
The Polar's look nice. Do you know if any of them will record heart rate over time? I'd like to use one during a race or track session and see what my heart rate is and if there is any spikes during the course of a race.

Re: Heart rate monitors
I've been using Polars for 10+ years now. My current model is the S725i. It does everything except cook your breakfast and wipe your butt. I use that model becuase it has all the cyclocomputer functions built into it. I'm picking up the power kit for it this month so i can start training with Watts and not have to outlay 1000 bucks for a Power Tap or 2300 bucks for an SRM. Contrary to what Polar says, you can change the batteries yourself.

Yes they will. Using Training Peaks software i can import my Polar data files into the program and it will plot out a graph. Here is an example from a past Hill Repeat workout. The model i use also has a barometric altimeter built in too. That would be the green line.

Re: Heart rate monitors
+1 on the Polar it does everything you could wish for. You can get foot pod for runing measurement, bike components for cadence, preed dist. and power if you want. And the software to download to the computer is pretty nice IMHO.
It would be funny to get the bike speed sensor and hook it to the motorcycle, I am sure it probably wouldn't work but would be cool!

Re: Heart rate monitors
Only the high end ones have the Altimeter and Temp. I forgot to mention that too. Mine also records hi/low and avg temp for a workout. Since i strap the wrist unit to my handlebars and not my arm it's not skewed by my body heat.
Quite a few more models will download to the computer.
If your not a cyclist than what you probably want is the high running model, the RS800.
They are not cheap, I paid about 315 bucks for my S725i, but mine is going on 2 1/2 years of continuous use with one battery change and so far its worked like a champ.

Re: Heart rate monitors
FWIW... I got the S625x then added the bike package to it. Of course there are a lot more models available today. But it was basic enough and did everything I needed. I don't think it does temp and altitude which would be cool to know. I have to say it relly took a while to sit down and get use to using it but once I was familiar with it I loved it. It was just tought at first to learn all the optins and there are a lot. Also you have to claibrate the foot pod(if you run) and the set up the pedal bike 7 watch to work together. But I love it! Hope this helps.
