Harsh Times

If you haven't seen it yet, go out and rent Harsh Times, starring Christian Bale and Freddy Rodriguez. It's directed by David Ayer, who did Training Day. It has the same spiraling intensity as Training Day, but even more disturbing, violent, and, well, harsh. The basic premise is two friends form south central L.A., one just back from Iraq, who drive around supposedly looking for jobs but basically getting f'ed up and involved in various petty acts of crime. Until it all spirals out of control.

Bale is great at playing the dangerously insane characters that you have to love anyway. Awesome in American Psycho and The Prestige, and a great performance here, too.

Re: Harsh Times

Weird--I missed it in theaters and also missed the post about it back in November. Must have just come out on video this week, since it was in the "new" section at Blockbuster. Sorry for the repost.

Re: Harsh Times

I'm a Bale fan and he did a great job in this role but I didn't care for the movie much. Kind of got the same feel that Ash originally had about watching someone spiral out of control. Definitely not a feel good movie. No real action to speak of. Just a story about a dude gradually loosing it more and more until..........
