I'm based in Cairns (Queensland, Australia) and I have just bought a 1999 900 City with 23,000km.
I've been into Yamaha Two Strokes for years, but I loaned a 99 750 a couple years ago. It needed new coils, the front brakes vibrated like a b@st@rd and it kept fouling plugs on a trailing throttle, but the bug bit.
It's how YOU feel when you're riding a booming Duke that I like, plus the pussy magnet in the back seat...
Well, durider, to be honest, until today i thought I had made a mistake...
You see, I have been a jap bike rider all my life. I recently went through a Yamaha RD350LC phase and then lost interest. A couple years ago I had the loan of a M750 for a few months when an associate lost his license. The brakes were shot and the plugs kept fouling on a trailing throttle, but there was a feeling the machine gave me when the booming pipes crackled on the over run and the communicatin between the chassis and the rider made me feel like Carl Fogarty...
I worked out I wanted a carby monster and spent six months searching for the right bike. I finally purchased the perfect bike and then, the first time I was taking it for a "proper"ride, the clutch issue in my other thread occurred.
Finally receiving Snyders Manual I was shocked at the maintainance requirements of Ducatis. They were even more intensive than I had assumed!
Suffice to say i was less than impressed and , in the words of""Arrested Developement"" thought I had ""made a huge mistake""
However today i took the machine on a perfect road. 18km of 40kmh twisting canyon roads up to the Tablelands of FNQ.
The M750 was impressive through the Adelaide Hills, warped rotors and all, but today was close to biking Nirvana.
If it wasn't for the stupid 60kmh speed limits and law enforcement members occupying my mind it would have been perfect...
