Default peforated or nonperforated for Boston riding ?

Guys -

I have narrowed it down to the Dainses SF Leather- making a two piec (havent seen the jacket live, but looks solid black on black - it does appear to have a chest pocket , which can be added bulk - can anybody confim)

The big question is perf or non re: pants. I do ride all year, that said my rides are short when its cold as hell and there is ice and crap on roads.

This brings me to comfert, some have said go perf and put a thermal layer on under in cooler season etc. Or just swithch to my textile as I am just blasting around on short rides.

Thoughts?

Vin

I would go perf'd leather for summer, winter specific textile for winter (known to be warmer).

I have a perforated jacket. It's nice in the summer; in the winter I wear a nylon windbreaker over it.

It all depends on how far you are treking during the winter. To be honest I would recommend like others have already perf in the summer and textile in the winter. Riding from lowell to boston in january on the highway doing 80 mph perf with a wind breaker will never make it. Trust me on that one I tried. Get a set of perf for the summer and go textile during the colder months definitely much much warmer then any of the other gear I tried including non-perf leather. Good Luck,

-ghost

I have full textile, full perf leather and full solid leather sets.

I've noticed that the torso is much more sensitive to both heat and cold. I can't get warm in the perf jacket below 65 no matter what I put under it. A layer over can help a bit more.

Legs on the other hand are less sensitive. The perf pants with thin thermal underlayer have been fine down to mid 50s. However it's a little less practical to throw a wind layer over the top when it gets colder.

In general, i concur with the group recommendation of perf pants; they have a pretty wide comfort range. having said that, you'll ultimately probably want to add solid pants. I wear my cordura now only for commuting . For sport riding I'm in leather. I feel much better protected that way.

I follow the consensus. Perf in the summer is the way to go. I happened to go in the opposite direction (non-perf leather and a perf textile), but it was mostly an issue of timing: I needed a more versatile first jacket, so I bought leather first.

The perforated textile is good for this time of year with the liner, and w/o the liner for temps above 75. If you're one of us who likes to milk the season for all it's worth, then spend some cash on heated gloves and a decent windbreaker to wear inside your non-perforated jacket. Also a backlava: your neck will thank you

I started riding once the street cleaning began (mid march) when the morning temps were in the 30's, and let me tell you: you need all the wind protection you can get!

Best Regards,

Im all textile at the moment and been layering all winter.
I am sold on the dainses sf pelle perf pants. Buying those and than mostlikly the SF jacket. Not sure perf or non per on jacket. Pants first.

Thank for the input.
