Default Ideas for a NH ride on Sat 14th (road conditions / route etc)

Guys- As my last post said, looking to do a Boston - NH loop and end up in Portsmouth Sat PM/AM Weather looks favorable. My thought was hammer up 93 to Lincolin and take the Kank over to Conway and down 16. The temps look fine - but not sure of the road conditions over the pass this time of year. Guesing snow. At any rate if I make dinner great, if not, find a motel.

Is there a better road than 16 South? Any ideas on the roads?

Vin -

If you want to meet a few of us in the morning in Hollis NH or Pepperell we're doing a few hundred miles and you can break off and head east mid day ... Send me a PM if you're interested, two of the guys are leaving from Medford [thumbsup]

FYI this is an e-mail I sent out last Saturday
-------------------------------------------------------

'Evening guys -

It was absolutely GORGEOUS (70) out today so I did about 280 miles today on the VFR to scout some of our greatest hits. Some of our favorites are having some issues ... Mostly sand / gravel coverage, so not the end of the world. Other roads, like Rt 31, are almost unpassable by bike due to the amount of frost heaves.

Here's the rundown:

(Fine means all clear, no issues ...)

SOUTH NH
Rt. 130 - Fine
Rt. 122 - Fine
Rt. 123 - OK (Some sandy areas right in the line in some corners, watch out ...)
Rt. 124 - OK (Sand in some areas)

Rt. 13/77 (Milford >> New Boston) - Fine
Rt. 77 (New Boston >> Weare) - Fine
Rt. 13 (River Rd. between Goffstown & New Boston) - Fine

BOW / DUNBARTON
Page Rd - OK, lots and lots of sand at the intersection of Page & Brown Hill
Brown Hill - OK, lots of sand but not a deal breaker
Gorham Pond Rd - Fine
Rt. 13 - Fine

CONCORD / CANTERBURY
Oak Hill Rd. - Fine
Hoit Rd. - OK, some sand
Shaker Rd. - OK, some sand
Rt. 132 - Fine
Carter Hill / Fisk Rd. / Little Pond Road - OK, a bit of sand

LAKES REGION
Rt. 103 (From Sunapee to Warner) - Fine
Rt. 31 - *AVOID* Major, Major Frost heaves all the way from Washington to Brook St. A catastrophe.
Brook Rd (Goshen NH). - OK, no frost heaves but sand in some of the blind corners

We're taking 122 to 130 to 13/77 and going through a bunch of backroads I know in Concord/Bow/Dunbarton/Gofftsown. We'll be meeting at the Dunkin Donuts in Pepperell MA (116 main st.) at 9AM, and making up the afternoon plans at lunch.

See you there at 9! [thumbsup]
