Default Handle Bar Risers

I finally got to take the new 695 out for a couple of rides last week and am pretty sure that I want to raise the bars up. My old wrists were killing me after about 30 minutes. Can I get some links and/or suggestions on something from you gals? ;D

You may very well need bar risers as I don't know anything about your size and how you fit on the bike... but detailed photos would help! > JK! I'm happily married...quit trying to seduce me!

Seriously, have you tried adjusting the levers to another angle? I like mine on the same plane as the angle of my forearms so that it's a straight pull, YMMV. When I first started riding the stock angle was not lined up right and it was uncomfortable that way. It's just two Allen bolts to loosen and adjust. Might be worth a try, and the price is right! [thumbsup]

Are you putting weight on your arms/wrists? If so, try to relax them, use your core muscles to hold you up instead. A good reminder is to sometimes "flap your wings" (arms) while you are riding.

Not too sure how new you are to riding, but when I first started I found I took a death grip on the handlebars and suffered a bit of wrist pain from it. Actually, I still find myself leaning too much on my wrists when I get tense in traffic. :P I think it is a natural reaction to grip the bars hard and put your weight on them, and it takes practice to improve your riding technique to use your core muscles and stay off of your wrists. I have to remind myself to ease off of my bars every once in a while.

If you are a new rider, you might want to practice that for a bit before you put risers on. If you are experienced, then it might just be your position on the bike. Every bike fits every rider a little differently!

Yeah, I have to remind myself every spring to stop leaning on my wrists. Just like riding a horse, use your leg muscles and core muscles, and the wrist pain is magically gone. Also, the back gets stronger from gently holding oneself upright!

The Monster I just bought came with bar risers. Guy said the Duc shop put them on. Glad they did. Even an inch up and back makes a big difference. I had risers put on one of my SV-650s and took them off because it effected the handling; the front end felt light and squirrely. I don't have this problem with the bar risers on my Monster.

You can try to look in Monsterparts.com. I bought a set from them and easily installed it myself (just remove the 4 bolts on the handlebar clamp, slip the risers in place and bolt the clamp back). You may try twitching the handlebar a little bit towards the tank but be careful not to overdo as you need clearence from the tank and do not want to stretch the throttle cable too much. A bit of minor adjustment while seated on the bike would help find your sweet spot. Test it for a few rides and adjust again if necessary. Soon you will discover what works best for you. [thumbsup]

ps: Don't forget to tighten the bolts on the handlebar clamp after adjustments.
