Default Officially scrap

After a minor mishap with some loose gravel, a ditch, a corn field and a 45 mph bail out it looks like my 06 Monster s2r 800 is too damaged to fix. Per my ins. co. a "scrap" title is the only option. Frame is bent, clutch cover is scratched/ gouged and various other right side minor damage including scratches and 1 spot of chipped paint on the front of the tank where the steering head hit when the steering stop broke. The bike had around 4000 miles on it. If anyone is intrested in parts or the whole thing as it sits LMK. I should be done dealing with them and have the bike back by late next week....probably by 06-08-07.

Hope you're ok. Sucks about the bike but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Thanks all. I am ok thanks to full gear, lotsa milk and much luck. I was able to pick myself and the bike up after the incident with minor bumps and bruises and ride it home. Very lucky indeed.

I was only about 10 miles from home on a rural road when it went down. I lost the front end on some gravel on a 35 mph S curve that I never saw a sign for (driving 55 in a 55 mph zone) and crossed the oncoming lane as the curve broke right. I bailed and landed on the downslope of the enbankment which was dirt and tall grass. The road had been pea stoned last year and there were small patches of the loose stuff all over. I had a wobble from the stones just prior to the curve I missed and didnt see the curve sign at all....guess I was looking too hard at the road for trouble spots.

Importantly, you're OK. [thumbsup] Insurance will cover the rest, right?

The ins. co. gave me high book from the NADA minus the deductible for about $7300 total. Since the isn't enough to buy a new bike (and I don't have the funds to cover the rest) I have a dilemma...either buy the bike back from them and part it out, hoping this will cover the price of the buy back and the difference or buy a new frame and put all my stuff on the new frame (as well as the broken parts), re-title and roll. I guess option c would be just walk away from it and look for something used and reasonable.

Anyone have any experience in this area ?. Right now the bike sits at the dealer in Kalamazoo and I need to get something done with it soon.

Hey michiganduc

You could post this in the general or tech forum, you should get more opinions/suggestions there. Also, you could post in the DML classifieds and see what kind of market there is for your parts.

Definitely get a titanium ratbike frame for it from http://www.arcfabrication.com

Put it together skimpily and you can get a sub 300lb bike. Now that's hot. If you were able to ride the bike home, you should have enough insurance money to do it.
