Default newbie Q: '00 M750 - what's the little window on the left side of the engine?

ok... newbie question here... 2000 Monster 750 carbie...

on the right side of the engine/bike there's a little window that appears to show the oil level...figured that one out, but...

What's the little window on the left side of the engine/bike? I can't seem to find any info, and no, i haven't called the local shop yet.

Mine is empty, so i'm apparently out of some type of fluid. Is that a problem? i'm assuming so. Bike is a bit old, I bought it used. Is that brake fluid? Clutch fluid?

Is there anywhere to find more detailed info about my bike online? I've found newer monster docs a little more easily, but had trouble finding more info on the older carbies

thanks for the help...and for sparing me the flames.

ok, nevermind...i searched a little more, and found this post by another member:

"...The "glass" on the left side is a timing window I think, it has some markers in it. Dont worry about it...."

I'm assuming i can safely ignore that window on the left. if anyone has a different opinion I'd be happy to hear.

Of course you hit it right on the head. It's for checking/adjusting ignition timing.
It's a trifle strange that Ducati would go to the trouble to install one when
solid state ignition is so damned reliable and unchanging. Of course, should it
be needed, it's nice to have. Being sprayed with oil while strobe testing is nothing
worth missing. Oh, the good old days.
