Re: i need feedback on a local repair shop
I don't know about Roy's. 2 weeks ago I went in to have 3 tires put on, and only one of the rims had a tire to take off. One was a rain and the lady told me that I can't run a dirt bike tire on a road rim. really? Than she said that it would be at least a week because they could do it because they didn't have enough mechanics on for the upcomming week. Honestly it takes 10 min. She was going to charge me $40 a wheel because I brought in my own tires. Whatever, my point is that any shop that doesn't want to make $120 in 10 mins and has no idea what a rain tire is is low on my list to do my repairs. Long story short I went to midwest and they did them in 10 mins. Also midwest saved my ass last fall when I messed up drilling out some rotor bolts and thought that the wheel was a lost, turns out $15 was all they charged me to drill and tap 3 new holes to mount the rotor. I would try them. Go in when they arn't busy and they will give you a better idea of what you are getting in for repair wise, weekends there are a zoo. This is the best that I can do for a donation.

I have had very good luck at Midwest as well, go during the week and they can usually get right at whatever you need.

Re: i need feedback on a local repair shop
I like Midwest as well. They have tried to track down parts for me for some vintage projects I am in. Consoled me when the prices were out of control, and referrred me to sometimes better online sources. One thing I would say is to try and talk to Pat or Greg. On Saturdays especially, the "helping" crew is very quick to say we "don't" or we "can't".
As far as donations, I got some wood pallets someone keeps dumping on my land. People are so f-en lazy.

Re: i need feedback on a local repair shop
Midwest is great for aftermarket parts, tire swapping, and general maintainence products, but he states that he needs a ton of work done to the bike and their Service department is not really cut out for that.
Roy's is excellent but you have wait in line (like most places this time of year) but Lou's been in business for over 30 years, and won't apologise for reality. If you can work with that, the work will be top notch.
I hear Brad Frey is working at Full Power in Hopkins. He is a very good tech (Tuner of the year in CRA a couple of years ago)
Sliverback is excellent
2K motorsports is excellent
Hypersports is excellent
after those you get your choice of Dealers but I only like 2 of them
Motoprimo has good techs, and St Boni has Jason Bryant (another Tuner of the Year winner)
now go forth and pick one of many good shops.
Remember that you get what you pay for (if it's free you overpaid!). Any shop worth hiring is going to have a wait time this time of year. Techs are insulted if you bring it in and ask for 1/3 of a service. Not that they won't "just do this part of it" but realize if that is your situation then there is nothing they can do to make it completely right, so don't blame them when something brakes because you chose not to service that particular item. Just because one can buy a bike for cheap does not mean that the bike will be cheap to service, labor rates do not go down because the purchase price was lower.
Every tech I listed above is an expert in their field, and they charge for their expertise.
Sorry for the rant but I get tired of the "I got screwed at "insert name here" becuase I told him "I did'nt want a new chain, well, when the chain broke it took out my engine cases, shift linkage, and ruined my boots, you'd think that asshole would have warned me about that". "Do you think I could sue him?"
PS the answer is yes !
good luck with yoru repairs

Re: i need feedback on a local repair shop
thanks to everyone for the replies. dont worry about the rant, crash13. i hear ya. for some info i have a hawk gt that needs carbs rebuilt, forks rebuilt, new tires, new brakes, new exhaust and i'd like to have it tuned correctly. i can do all the mechanics but i just dont have the time and i dont have the dyno. i am not worried too much about turn around time cuz i can ride my monster. besides i have wanted this bike for so long that i think its worth it to have it done right.
thanks again for the replies.
when will it warm up out there?

Should have picked up the hawk i had listed instead. That one had everything you are wanting.
Once you get it how you want it, you are just going to love that thing. I had no problem crackin up wheelies in first gear like riding a bicycle. Very responsive and a great handling bike. Super reliable, and soooo much fun to ride. [thumbsup]
