Default Anyone know where I can get forks rebuilt locally?

Since my quest to find a second, sportier bike is on hold, I'm looking to upgrade the suspension on my monster. I'm interested in having my forks rebuilt and resprung for my weight. Is there anyone local in the cities that's reputable. I'm also curios about the average cost if anyones had it done. Thanks in advance.

I replaced my stock Marzocchi forks with a pair of adjustable Showas that were re-sprung by these guys: http://www.gpsuspension.com/ It's definitely been an improvement. You might not want to mail out your forks, but you could cruise through the GP website and at least find some good pricing info for comparison purposes.

I don't know anyone local who does this, though. Have you called Silverback and asked who they recommend? Fred might even be able to do it himself. (?)

+1 on Silverback.

Another option is Tom Manley. He is rebuilding a set of forks for me right now. 822-7377

Cost is based on what you want done. There are options. You'll have to call and get quotes.

I replaced the forks on my monster with showas from a 998. $200 shipped off ebay. $15 shim kit from motowheels. $250 top clamp form speedymoto. With the rear end raised and a good shock it's perfect for me (I'm about 200lbs with gear) I never revalved the forks and it's one of the best mods I've ever done. Talk about a totally different bike it turns sooooo much better. The thing about getting the showas is that there is a better array of parts and thus tunability. Otherwise I heard that Manley is great. My friend has a 900ss and he had tom do his and swears by it. Hopefully this helps.

Tom Manley has been my Suspension Tuner for years. He is one of a very few Ohlins certified guys in the country and the only one in town. Tom has not only the technical background but he also has the practical knowledge learned at the track, with riders of all levels including himself.

Now getting a hold of him that is a different story

PS if you do the forks and leave the shock alone you will not achieve the complete benefit. The front and rear are a symbiotic realtionship that have to work together to be right.

Good Luck

My plans so far were to buy an ohlins double adjustable shock with the hydraulic preload adjuster and order it set up for my weight. Since my bike is an S model I did get the fully adjustable showas up front. I initially didn't want to send my forks out, but after browsing the GP Suspension web site I'm definitely leaning towards it. The biggest reason is being able to purchase the shock I want through them and have one place that sets up both ends of the bike. Thanks again for all the input.
