Default Winter Project Ideas

So I'm debating what I want to do with my bike over the winter. I have to take it in and have some engine work done over the winter anyway, and I'm thinking about having the frame bead blasted and painted or powder coated at the same time. For those who have seen the holes in the frame I'd probably rechop the tail to clean it up some. There's a paint bubble in the tank so I should probaly have that done too.

Does anyone have experience with or ideas of how much this kind of work might cost? I'm debating if it's worth it to put a bunch of money into a '99 750, or if it would be better to save the cash and upgrade to a better bike in a year or two. Or maybe an engine swap for a 900 in this frame...

Anyone have pros, cons, potential pitfalls, other ideas? Also, I'm taking it to Silverback for the engine work, but does anyone know of good paint shops?

Thanks,
Mike

Mo, AKA cyclops, is a painter. You can pm him but he will be dragging his knee around the track until Monday eve.

He painted Ross' tank, AKA desmo elmer. Ask him for pics.

I bet you're looking at minimum $500 for the tank, maybe more.

I had my wheels bead blasted and powdercoated and I think it was 175 bucks. Frame would be quite a bit more I imagine.

IMO that is too much to spend on a 750. I'm not dissin the 750, I just think that you will wish you hadn't put the money into it because I think you WILL want upgrade. I've made that mistake with my M800. You'll never recoup "mod" money. I like my M800 but I'd like just a tad more grunt...

Maybe you need louder pipes. They're good for at least 5 more HP. > [cheeky]

Seriously, though. Ross is right about the mod money. If I were in your shoes, I'd spend a few bucks to make sure the engine is in a good state of tune and then just ride the $hit out of the bike.

Put the mod money into the bank and use it (and the accrued interest) as a down payment on a new bike. [thumbsup]

That's kind of the way I was leaning. Especially after reading some of the tech info on the 750. This is a good bike for someone with my riding experience, and budget, but I can already tell that I'm going to want an upgrade fairly soon.

It would be fun make this a project bike though. I haven't had a good project in a long time. Too bad I can't afford projects and a new bike. Speaking of money and projects, anyone here install windows? :'(
