Default CBS to Broadcast MotoGP

Hello Race fans,

I thought that I would let you know that CBS has agreed to broadcast three MotoGP races this year:

- Spanish GP (June 10th at 12:30 PM)

- Netherlands GP (June 30th 1:00 PM)

- German GP (July 15th 12:00 PM)

I just hope they are in HDTV. CBS's HDTV rocks. Kevin Schwantz will be doing the commentary.

Is that why the 250 race is the only GP race listed on SPEED?

I would guess that is why only the 250 race is on the NASCAR channel (excuse me.... I mean SPEED Channel).

Yes that's the deal. While CBS is running the GP coverage, Speed will just run the 250.
Us race geeks are already all over this [thumbsup]
Personally I have mixed emotions. It's cool that motogp will get more coverage and is becoming more popular in the US, but the announcers suck compared to the Euro boys that Speed gets their feed from. And when Fox covered Laguna last year, (and will again this year), they spent too much time trying to get shots of celebrities in the crowd : I could care less that Brad Pitt is hanging out at the race!
I will say that Schwantz is a little better than Spencer and Mr. dipshit Nascar guy that cover the AMA races on Speed, but still no match for the usual GP guys!

And if we are talking racing ;D Look for Pedrosa and Elias to be strong this weekend. In the first two practices, Bridgestone is dominating again with the exception of Rossi, and Pedrosa (both on michellin)
Ducati's exploitation of the gratuitous horsepower deficit seems to be coming to an end. It was a good ride but I think it's over. We'll see for sure after this round because Catalunya has a wicked long straight. But after watching Stoner surprised last week when he couldn't blow by and overtake Rossi and Pedrosa, was a sign that it's over. Too bad because I would like to see Ducati take the title but...aint gonna happen. Stoner may have matured a lot with his skill but he's only on top of points right now because of his power advantage...that's it.

In the 250...Lorenzo is gonna spank everyone this weekend [laugh]

Gabe! Maybe you should apply for Freddie's job!
Freddie saw your post and is now staring into a blank television screen... he's slightly drooling and keeps muttering under his breath something like "aaand if they can get the bike to ch-ch-ch-ch change direction.... ummm, the k-k-k-key is turn one, ummm try try tttt trying to accelerate out of the corner..." I'd vote for ya, maybe you should shave your head since Great White decided to grow his a little, every race show needs a bald guy.

WHAT A RACE!!! Did someone say something about the Ducati run being over? Question... "Would you like to eat your words hot or cold mate?" Haha... seriously though, WOW! It doesn't get any better than today's race... I thought Pedrosa was going to throw a wrench into it somehow, but, never happened...

Casey Stoner (Ducati), 200.0 mph
Alex Barros (Ducati), 198.2 mph
Loris Capirossi (Ducati), 198.0 mph
Nicky Hayden (Honda), 197.1 mph
Dani Pedrosa (Honda), 197.0 mph
Alex Hofmann (Ducati), 197.0 mph
Randy De Puniet (Kawasaki), 196.4 mph
Olivier Jacque (Kawasaki), 196.3 mph
Marco Melandri (Honda), 195.0 mph
John Hopkins (Suzuki), 193.9 mph
Valentino Rossi (Yamaha), 193.3 mph
Chris Vermeulen (Suzuki), 192.6 mph
Sylvain Guintoli (Yamaha), 192.6 mph
Shinya Nakano (Honda), 192.6 mph
Toni Elias (Honda), 192.2 mph
Colin Edwards (Yamaha), 192.1 mph
Kenny Lee Roberts (KR-Honda), 191.3 mph
Makoto Tamada (Yamaha), 190.9 mph
Carlos Checa (Honda), 190.8 mph
Kurtis Roberts (KR-Honda), 189.3 mph

These are FP2 top speeds. It's clear that Ducati is not completely dominating on top speed anymore. The last two rounds have showed this. When Stoner pulled away on the straight today, it was mostly from drafting, not outright horsepower like early in the season. Honda and Yamaha have been working very hard to compensate and it's showing. Watch the race again, Stoner was not pulling a huge gap on the straight, when he drafted, he was able to slingshot by but that's to be expected. When he went into the front straight in the lead, he was not able to pull away like early in the season.
So, they still have a slight top speed advantage, but it is fading quickly. Look at those FP2 speeds. On a long straight like this, that's pretty darn close!

And Pedrosa has done some serious focusing this season. He has changed a lot since last year. I think that taking the 125, and 250 championships made him come in way too cocky. And HRC making him the golden boy doesn't help any. He seems to have matured a little and is able to keep it together instead of running a win it or bin it campaign. My prediction is he will take the championship within three seasons.
