My officemate, Eric( a few of you have ridden with him), rode his yellow Thruxton to work today. I rode my Duc. We try to park in the back corner, away from others as much as possible. When I got back from lunch, he was sitting on the concrete barrier at the top of the space with a woman I didn't recognize, looking very glum. Yes, she backed into the bike and knocked it over. Cursory, inspection revealed; bent clip-ons, real good scratch on the tank, a gouge on the can, broken peg, fork lock, broken bar-end mirrors.
The woman was calling her insurance when I came in. I feel bad for him. My first Duc was totalled in the same exact manner.
The best part was her saying she didn't think she hurt it.

How the hell did she manage that? Were there two of you in the spot?
What an idiot. I hope everything gets fixed up.

She was parked across the isle. She went to back into the 'empty' space and then pull forward. Luckily, I was at lunch or she would have gotten two for the price of one.
The police were called. He's got a police report and her insurance info. I don't think there's going to be much of a hassle.

Yeah, it sucketh. Yellow bike on its side, gas everywhere, very sad
sight for me indeed. What are ya gonna do though.
1) I had three empty spaces on either side of me
2) She hit me with the drivers side rear corner
3) My bike was parked head first, and it looks like she hit the left side clip-on to flip it over
4) She hit it hard enough to put a baseball size dent in her fender
That means the bike was in plain view of the drivers side mirror if
she chose to use it. Not much you can do about that!
Luckily, I was able to get it towed to the shop and start the insurance
stuff rolling today. We'll see how it goes, the shop manager said there
usually wasn't a problem with the insurance companies, these bills
are apparently too small to worry about. He immediately agreed with
the numbers Ken and I were thinking (2-3k+), but could be more
after the inspection. He thinks the bash might have tweaked the
forks too. Might be an opportunity to upgrade a couple things
after they cut the check, we'll see.
Just happy I wasn't on it and the lady was honest...
Sorry guys, just venting. Hopefully I'll just use to opportunity to upgrade
the shocks or get a custom paint job or something:-)

Ouch! I really hate to hear about another one. I had one of my bikes knocked down while in the parking lot at work, on a Saturday, very few people around, and yet the guards saw NOTHING! Well, in their defense, I must admit that it is extreemly difficult to see anything WHEN YOUR ASLEEP!! The only positive - whoever did it to my bike also took the time and energy to get it back up onto the side stand - with the forks locked even!
Get the bike fixed, thumb your nose at the perp, go for a ride and enjoy it like it was a new bike.

with mods, of course.
Glad to hear that she stuck around. I keep mine parked outside my office window so that I can keep an eye on it. I am constantly worried about that happening.
