Default Welding and exhaust mod

I was performing routine maintenance on the Monster last night, and I noticed that the mounting tab on my Spareshack midpipe is broken. It "snapped" behind the bolt to the engine case.

So, I thought this might be the best time to get the "S" pipes modded by (1) cutting in half; (2) inserting a 70mm piece of stainless tubing (to raise the cans) into each pipe; (3) TIG welding everything back together; (4) chopping the cans. I'd also have to fab a new mounting bracket for the cans.

My question is, can anyone suggest a person to do the cutting/welding part? FHE would be best. I talked to a guy at one of the "custom" shops near Ray Price, and he neither impressed me, nor instilled me with confidence. The "S" pipe mod isn't difficult, but the alignment can be fucked up, and it would be really nice to get it done right the first time.

Any suggestions for a shop/person are welcome.

Dave,
do you know if your S pipes and those off of my old 800 are the same? If so I think I have a spare set. That way we could try this at the School of Design shop.

The stock S-pipes are useless -- wrong diameter and spacing between the pipes to use with the Termi cans. However, if you're talking about the S-pipes from your aftermarket exhaust, we could try. I can measure the diameters at both ends. However, your cans were larger diameter, so your S-pipes might result in a greater spacing between the Termi cans.

Do you have your S-pipes on hand? Can you TIG weld? I don't want to "experiment" on a $2000 exhaust system (well, that did include a chopped airbox and ECU).

I think you are right in that my S pipes are the wrong diameter. I was thinking that we could try on my S pipes, get it right, and then fix your s pipes. As far as Tig welding, I can at the SOD shop at State.
