Default Dealer prices

So I stopped in to a Houston Ducati dealer today. Talked to the salesman about a 2012 Monster 696. Real nice guy, told me all about the bike answered all my questions. We sit down to talk numbers, this is where it got interesting. Here is what he quoted me OTD $11,695.15 This includes $678 in tax and a $553 dealer prep. Am I crazy? Almost $12 grand for a 696???? I'm going to stop at another dealer and see what they come back with. Granted there was no negotiation, it was late and I needed to get some other things done. If that is a decent price I must be missing something?

That is insanely expensive. Tell him to sod off and go buy a lightly used one on craigslist for $6k.

The bike MSRP is $8,795.00, add in the $678 tax you quoted and a $553 dealer prep and you're at $10,026.00. Where is the extra $1,700 coming from?

Sounds about right to me. You might be able to find a better deal but that's what they've been at all the dealers I've seen in CO.

Are you sure he isn't giving you the total cost with finance charges? And what was the MSRP he was stating with.

Austin Texas, very close to Houston, as of yesterday, M1100 EVO stock OTD $13,910.

I know the dealer well and ride with him from time to time. We are also involved in community programs together. After running the numbers he showed me a letter from DNA stating that dealers are not to be selling below the MSRP as Ducati are pushing themselves as a "premium motorcycle". Dealers can find themselves on the short end of the stick if they sell below MSRP. I was told that when I come in to buy my bike, since I'm paying in full and with cash, that we can find a little wiggle room on "floor stock" but if I was to finance the bike, DNA tells them to sell at or above MSRP.

That is about the exact price for a set of Termi's installed. For the M1100 I just priced, $1,800 was added to the bike with the slip ons already installed.

To the buyer: You might want to check if the bike has a different exhaust on it.

I spoke to him again today. He actually called me to tell me that he thought he had mistakenly quoted the wrong price. His quote was for a 796. Now we are right at $10000 OTD. It is a stock bike & exhaust.
