Ducati 1098
Here are the first pics of the new superbike spotted testing at Mugello... Of course it's not going to be the final version, but there is something to talk about... [cheeky] ;D

Re: Ducati 1098
Hard to say what the body looks like from those shots; the mule bodywork looks like someone wrecked a SBK 999R and glued it back together. Sweet swingarm. I don't care for the exhaust, though.

I do like that exhaust and back to an SSS. +1 on the bodywork comment by jagstang.

Re: Ducati 1098
Hmm. Something is fishy here. First of all, wasn't Ducati looking to do something in the 1188 range for displacement? Second, didn't they go to a dual sided swingarm with the Desmosedici and the SBKs for the rigidity that it offered outweighing the slight time savings in tire changes in races?
And that looks like someone's trackday bike with busted ass and repaired bodywork. I understand the concept of mule bodies to draw attention away from the finished product but that's just my humble opinion.

(999 nose and lowers, Unknown tailsection, 996 exhaust with round cans instead of ovals, swingarm looks just like the 9*6 swingarm as does the sprocket carrier/hub, the front suspension/brakes suggests aftermarket Ohlins and radial mount Brembos. Of course, that is stock on the exsisting SBKs so not a huge stretch there. But then the rotors suggest by their width and diameter a race kit item. All in all however, I think it is just someone's beat up old 9*6 track mule with some damage and custom/aftermarket bits.)

No, the final engine size is going to be 1098cc and that's probably the most official news available...

Re: Ducati 1098
I like it, but I'm more than a little concerned it is just someone's 996/998 with messy 999 plastics on it. Instead of being a Ducati test mule of some kind. Although I hope it is a real test bike.

That is not a SBK swing arm - they look nothing like it except for the fact that they are single sided.
I'd say this is the bike. I don't know if you guys remember the shots of the DD16RR way back when, but it had just some random exhaust stuck on and the bodywork looked like shit, etc.... Then the final product came out looking much different.

People like them. They aren't as good for racing as conventional swingarms, but people still like them.
I'm one of those people. I like they way they look. I like the ease of chain adjustment and wheel removal. And I don't care if it makes me theoretically a second or two slower around a race track.
