I agree with you and you need to good heavy leather jacket for riding. There are many good brands available in the market. Back in the past, a motorcycle is more of a necessity than a luxury. People used to ride motorcycles to go to work since they do not have car. Motorcycles seemed to be a better replacement for bicycle since it used motor to make the ride easier.
But now, motorcycling has become more of luxury and status symbol. And this has made the motorcycle industry to boom as more and more people got fascinated with motorcycle for relaxation and for sports.
Then, motorcycle apparel has also become particularly important. These days, bikers are very meticulous about their motorcycle jackets. More than a fad, jackets are also for the riders’ best protection. The jackets are their protective cover when they ride to act as a screen against materials and debris that might cause injury or harm. Jackets are also their protection against extreme weather conditions – heavy rains or fiery hot – they need something to shelter themselves with.
Most motorcycle jackets are actually leather jackets, as leather makes the best material for such. This is because based on the experience and knowledge of long time bikers, leather makes the strongest and the sturdiest fabric fit for strong winds and sudden big and small movements. Leather can also be very affordable, provided that you know how to buy and where to buy. Leather is as comfortable as silk because it is soft and smooth, and as strong as denim since it is thick.
Other leather goods are particularly popular in motorcycling like leather chaps (to go with the leather jackets); and leather gloves and boots. A good pair of eyewear and the best helmet would complete your best motorcycle apparel that you can enjoy while riding to your heart’s desires.
Buying your apparel would only need you to be street smart and savvy buyer and to know the finest places to get the best products at the best prices.

It's not all Mad Maxed out, but you may want to take a look at the Dainese Vintage jacket.

I have one - it fits great, has all the protection you need (it's Dainese - pretty much a given), and it is pre-distressed. I've had quite a few people make positive comments about it when I go into work, stores, or hop off the bike.

It has a real nice classic cafe style to it and it's already broken in. May not be what you're looking for, but is worth checking out. Retail is $$$, but you can find deals if you look around (I did).

I've got one of these:

No armour, but other than that it is the best looking, best made motorcycle jacket I've ever seen.
Made in USA by NYC union workers!
