Default back protector?

I am looking into a back protector for the upcoming spring. I was hoping to get any suggestions etc. I have never worn one but now I've grown up (mentally) and realize it's something that really I should wear. I have a textile jacket with the slot built into it but I would prefer the stand alone one I think. That way I can wear it regardless of what jacket I wear.

Also, if you all don't mind I wouldn't mind hearing current opinions on boots etc.

Really happy with my Sidi Vertigo boots.

I also "grew up" this year. I rode for about 13 years with my favorite Corcoran boots. They offered plenty of protection and well are just darn nice boots. I was chastised a few times this spring for not wearing "proper" boots (I do wear a nice Dainese Ducati "Meccaninca jacket with full armor and Joe Rocket gauntlet race gloves). A couple of weeks later I stumbled on a CL ad for a NIB pair of Sidi Vertigo boots for the low low price of $50. Guy was racing and had ordered a ton of new goodies but had a spill and scared himself so much he never went back and never used the new gear. I figured for the money I couldn't go wrong. Now I wish I had ridden with them for years. I feel more confident that my feet are better protected from twisting and breaking injuries and they fit so well. I can't describe how light they are. Each boot weighs about the same as a ball cap. I've worn them for days at a time at rallies and have zero complaints.

Forcefield back protector /thread

I am a fan or my Puma 1000 boots. Good protection, comfortable, sturdy, and not too bulky.
