i was just trying on helmets this weekend and i looked at the rf-1100, the rx-q, and the vector 2.

the one thing i came out of it knowing is that the rx-q's internal liner material is for some reason really rough compared to the vector/rf-1100. when i was sliding it off my head, it would feel like it was scratching at my face compared to the other two.

I too purchased a Shoei RF-1100 and Shoei Qwest for the wife. I like it so far but i dont really have anything else to compare it to since its my first helmet.

The higher end Arai's use a moisture wicking material which is slightly rougher, but works great during the summer, I find it comfortable. I have both Shoei and Arai helmets. The Arai's is the only brand helmet that have a Eyeglass port, so your eyeglasses are not squeezed on the side of your head. Also prevents the eyeglasses/sunglasses from moving up and down when you hit rough roads and your helmet shakes. Glasses slide in and out of the helmet without touching the padding. Try that with any other brand.
Ive hit rough roads using my shoei and the eyeglasses move with the helmet making it difficult to see where im going.

I have one of each, a Arai Corsair and a Shoei Flip helmet. Wear a large in Arai and Med in Shoei. Both are good helmets, but Shoei seems to be much quieter, but I always wear foam ear plugs for highway runs. Get a good fitting helmet that is comfortable and fits properly.

Have worn all different brands over the years - the important thing is fit and comfort. Forget the brand and buy whichever fits your head the best with the most comfort. Kinda like Cinderella, who didn't ask what brand of slipper but that it just fit.

My ideal helmet would have the fit and finish of my Arai Quantum, with the visor removal system of my Shoei X-Spirit! I hate the "is it gonna break" feeling everytime I take my visor off, which is after every ride.

Agreed. But you eventually get used to it. I'm not sure if it actually creates a better seal the way Arai does it, but I just know that my RF-1100 is quieter than my Corsair V.

I am of the opinion that the side pods on the Arai are responsible for generating the whistling wind noise. Helmets which have flush fitting visors (my Shoei and my wife's AGV for example) are significantly quieter.
