Default Anyone tried Bilt, by Cycle Gear yet?

Has anyone tried anything from the new "Bilt" line that Cycle Gear is now carrying? The prices are cheap (like under $300 for a leather suit), but they really don't tell you much in the catalog.

My brother is thinking of picking up some boots and asked my advice... so now I'm asking for yours.

Heard it was the cheaper Frank Thomas replacement brand.

Have a buddy that just rode in them for a few hundred miles. The boots anyway. He said he should get a season or two out of them. Kinda funky design wise, the zipper doesn't go all the way down like other manufactures. But he did say they were comfortable for the most part.

Update:

My buddy that bought the Bilt Boots had them for about 9 months before the soles wore through. He did return them to the store no questions asked. So, I suppose, if you want to buy a pair and just return them when they wear out you could do that.

I have some winter gloves and jacket from them. Quality is ok. They're cheap and serve their purpose, but some seems have started to split. I'm ok with sewing them back up, so I am sure I'll get a couple sessions out of them

Yes, I left my scorpion Evo 1000 helmet with an artist for a few weeks so I stopped into cyclegear in Virginia Beach and picked up one of their house brand Bilt $50 full face model. I think it is a prefect example of "you get what you pay for". It's heavy, noisy (especially on the monster) and It doesn't breathe very well, one vent just blows directly into your mouth. It always fogs up in the morning. I think they run a bit large too.

BUT you know what? It is DOT approved, does the job, and it is exactly what I was expecting. I tried on some Bilt leather pants and the fit was so bad I didnt even try another size.

Their leather gear...Considering that most of these guys wear Dianese, NOT EVEN CLOSE. I'm an Icon man, myself. From my jap bike days...

I have a Bilt helmet that I bought as my first and a perf leather jacket. The helmet was absolutely horrible. Vented really well but it was LOUD, whistled, and wasn't aerodynamic at all. I had to put a lot of effort into head checks. Stay away from their helmets.

The perf leather jacket on the other hand isn't so bad. Its as basic as basic gets but for $100 for a leather jacket I can't complain. Yes its cheaply made and the zipper sometimes unzips a little at the top on its own (there is no locking mechanism or anything preventing the zipper from unzipping) I got it in all black so the logos aren't visible, its very plain looking. But it ventilates well and is mostly comfortable especially once broken in. Makes a good second jacket.

I recently bought a full set of stuff from Bilt because I've been out of the sport of street riding for 10 years and didn't want to drop a ton of cash on high end gear if I didn't enjoy it like I used to. I figured if I really enjoyed it (which I do lol), I would just keep all the Bilt gear for passenger duty and rebuy all good stuff. I used to wear Shoei and Joe Rocket back in the day, and I think I'm actually going to get a new Shoei lid soon with a Dianese jacket.

Anyways, I am wearing their helmet, jacket and gloves in this pic, and as you can tell it fits pretty slim which I like since I am a smaller guy. The jacket is perforated leather and mesh inserts and it breathes pretty decently. It’s a bit stiff and rides up a little bit, but I’m pleased for the cost. The gloves offer great protection for the price, but again they’re just a bit stiff and a bit uncomfortable. The helmet has been performing quite well actually – the last helmet I had was a RF-900 I believe so I’m comparing to older tech. It’s fairly quiet and breathes pretty well for the heat here. I think after discounts and promotions I have less than $300 invested into the 3 pieces total, so I think that for “starter” gear it’s a good performance to value ratio. That being said, I am looking forward to getting some higher quality stuff and relegating this to my passenger.

I just got back into riding after not having a bike for 10 years. I bought a Custom Bilt Cafe Racer jacket and gloves on sale. Seems to be decent quality and appropriate for my needs. I didnt go cheap on the helmet, got a Shoei RF-1100. I may get one of the Bilt flip up helmets just to have a spare.
