easiest way to lock a helmet?

What are some options people have used to lock their helmets to their bike? I know the new Ducati 696 has the option to lock under the seat, but it's a pain in the butt to take the seat off all the time. Not to mention the bike is scotching hot after a ride and I am afraid it will melt the dam thing. Would appreciate all comments!

i got a 4ft length of lightweight coated cable from hdwe store-
crimped a big loop on both ends
hang the helmet on handlebar /mirror
loop/ lasso helmet with one end - and put other loop around steering lock pin when locking fork !
