Default Camping gear/ roadtrip/ S2R 1000? HELP!!!

I am getting ready to go on a little roadtrip with some friends of mine. I am trying to figure out a way to take a small sleeping bag and compact tent and a couple changes of clothes. Has anybody got any suggestions for a good tail bag or something that I might be able to safely transport this. I am going about 800 miles over 3 days driving my 07 S2R 1000. I have looked at some tail / tank bags online but havent seen anything that has jumped out at me yet. Thanks guys.

I am trying to work out the same issue. Good tank bag and a small backpack. I have seen on the board, somebody with a expandable bag - fits on pillion but couldnt seem to work out if it would scratch up the rear cover etc....

Also you decide to ride with leathers or textile?

I will probably be riding with textile, it will be June 19th so the textile will be a little lighter and cooler than my leathers. Let me know if you find anything and I will do the same for you. Thanks ... Joe.

I found a soft side bag kit from Ducati. It mounts easily on the left side and works pretty well on my S2R for the commute to work. It would accomodate a couple changes of clothes I think but definitely not the tent or sleeping bag. Should be OK on a longer trip. The part number I have is 96740303BA.

For other bag ideas you might check out www.aerostich.com. Their site is pretty deep so you may have to click around a bit, but I recall that they have a bunch of styles of bags.

Having done a number of long trips on various bikes, I don't know if I'd support the backpack idea. Those things get REALLY HEAVY after awhile.

Good luck.

i have had good results with a cargo net, on my monster 900. i put a small sleeping bag and tent on the rear passenger seat, and hold them down with the cargo net, and for insurance i add two bungees. if the cargo net comes with plastic hooks, break them off and replace them with metal so you can get a tight fit. the hooks they sell at kitchen stores for hanging pots and pans are good.

then for my other gear, i use a duffel bag across the shoulder. adjust the strap so that the duffel bag is resting low behind you, right on top of your other cargo, and you'll have almost no weight across your shoulders. have fun.
