Wet Wear Gear - Advice
Hi all,
I am a relatively new Monster owner living in Australia. So about to enter my first winter on the new bike and need to kit myself out in some proper wet weather or cool weather gear. So I have a shortish length jacket with a liner what is water proof and an old leather jacket. I am thinking of either a pair of leather pants and matching jacket or am I best placed to get some proper wet weather pants and a longer wet weather jacket?
I would great appreciate advice!
Bret

Re: Wet Wear Gear - Advice
I don't have a leather jacket but I've ridden in the rain before. I think most people usually run textile during rainy season. I could be wrong though.
I like the motogp textile pants for riding in the rain. I rode through some really heavy stuff and my 5 year old teknic jacket that lost all its water protection didn't do much of anything except collect water while my pants kept me totally dry. I like the longer jackets for the rain since the crotch area seems to be the most likely place to get wet on any pants you get and the longer jacket helps keep this area covered.
Be very careful riding in the rain. 2 wheels = less traction and all that. Take it easy and watch your footing when you stop too. The paint they use here in the states can get really slippery when wet (turn arrows and stop written on the floor).

Re: Wet Wear Gear - Advice
Good waterproof gloves, maybe look for one with a "wiper blade" on left index finger
Good waterproof/resistant boots - I have Sidi Vertigo Tepors, and love 'em, rode through a few monsoons & socks stayed dry
I have textile/cordura pants & jacket - I also treat with Scotchguard - you could also stick with the leather, and get light waterproof jacket/pants to wear over outside of leathers
Rain-X on outside of shield, Fog-X on inside - I re-apply 1 or 2 times a month, depending on rain/fog here
careful on the roads after 1st rain in awhile, you'll notice road grim/grease gets pretty slick until rain washes it off roads...

Re: Wet Wear Gear - Advice
I just pull my Frog Togs over my regular gear, pull on some GTex touring boots and go.
Frog Togs are extremely waterproof and cheap. If the budget won't allow for Goretex boots you could always go for some fishing gear (goretex or neoprene wading socks) to keep the feet dry for a small amount of cash.
Rain-X works but be careful it's meant for glass and there's a long standing debate about whether extended use warps plastic visors or not.

+1 on the Frog Togs. Cheap and fits over anything.

Re: Wet Wear Gear - Advice
Avoid anything with the "hipora" brand waterproof membrane. It doesn't work (I've had 2 pairs/4 total gloves with it, and they all leak immediately when it rains). If you want to stay dry, go with real gore-tex.

After so much work, why is it that I still can't help but consider buying other bikes?

Re: Wet Wear Gear - Advice
Triumph Chevron rain oversuit works and wads up into its included bag, which is the size of an American football.
I have a BMW Rallye suit with Goretex liners which keeps me warm and dry, but the outer later absorbs some water and can get heavy. It also doesn't shed snow worth a darn (not that I'd ever PLANNED on riding in that!). So, if temperatures and frequency of rain allow, just get an oversuit.
If the roundel bothers Rev'IT makes very similiar gear to the Rallye in function and cost.
