Rib Protection
Since I had all my saftety gear on during a recent 55mph crash everything was kept in one piece except 4 Ribs that were broken on my right side.( Not a mark on my body anywhere ). I have searched the DML and most of the OEMs. for a decent rib protector including the web site that tests equipment and nothing looks like it would have saved my ribs. I've been looking at of all things watersking vests. They look like they surround your rib cage and have double layer foam padding but I've only seen them in pictures and don't know if they would fit under a leather jacket that is already pretty much skin tight. Dainese, BMW, Alpine*s,and others make protector jackets to be worn under your outer jacket but the rib protection is woefully lacking especially under your arm area. If I can't find some real good rib protection I'm not sure I will ever ride again. Too much Pain!

Re: Rib Protection
Are you talking about something that covers your sides specifically? Cuz there are a lot of good chest protectors, but they don't provide much protection on the sides.
That said, apparently, T-pro also makes a wrap-around rib protector: http://www.johnsonleather.com/forcef...pper_torso.htm

Re: Rib Protection
Broken ribs do suck, I had two broken and shoved through my left lung that had me in the hospital for a week and half draining blood from my lung.
did you have a front or side impact with the object that broke your ribs? and were they broken in the front or back?
That said when you say you were wearing all your protective gear...what kind of jacket was it?, and did it have a spine protector in it? I ask because a synthetic jacket even with all the guards most likely will not dissapate the blow to the front of the torso as well as a good leather jacket.
You will find good rib protection comes at a cost of heat buildup and limited ability to tuck without putting pressure on your stomach. It'll also probably bump you a size in your jacket.
Theres alot of torso/rib protection stuff for offroad riders that I have used while riding offroad, it's another place to look.

I had seen this T-Pro on the website that does product testing and I must say the picture you have posted looks much more substantial than it looked on the other eluded to website. This one looks the best of any I've seen yet . Thanks for your post.

My impact was a series of 4 big hard thumps. Each time I had a big thump I thought " that probably was a broken shoulder,' then the next hard thump I thought " boy that is really going to be serious,' etc My ribs are broken to the side under my armpit and around toward my back. I was wearing a Ducati Corse leather jacket w/ a BMW back protector under the jacket.

Re: Rib Protection
If they broke under your armpit and in the back I would hazard a gues that it was pressure from your arm against your torso that flexed and then broke your ribs. The T-Pro piece looks like it can be worn either on your front or back based on teh website
For 90 bucks it's worth a try, I would want it sewn into my riding jacket tho, or at least velcro secured at the top to the inside of the jacket in stead of the long straps with the the velco compression strap to hold it in place to the body.
Otherwise if a few broken ribs is going to weighing so heavy on you as a deciding factor to keep riding or not will the addition a layer of rubber padding help much? Might be a good placebo for the brain tho to get you back on the road

It's very possible that what you say is how they got broken. It happened so fast all I remember were the 4 hard concusive thumps and knowing that each thump meant some degree of injury. Way back when I played football in high school I had a pair of rib pads that were hard on the outside and padded on the inside and were more shaped like the letter 8 on it's side with a bit of a curve. Maybe I should check out football protection sites.

Re: Rib Protection
I broke my right shoulder and 3rd rib under the shoulder blade during my crash. Don't ask me what I hit because I was already unconscious. That being said, I wonder how you would use a back protector with this rig. I guess it would have to be inside the back jacket pocket and not a strap on....
