can anybody give me some insight on fit of these helmets?

what head shape does it fit best? comparable fit to other helmets? are they true to size? run smaller/larger?

It depends. What kind of shark are you buying a helmet for? I find most sharks don't really need helmets since their heads are made largely of cartilage.

My only advice is to go to a store and try all the helmets on before buying one. Personally I love the Shark it fits me great. Other people I know can't stand them. I'm buying a new one next month. [thumbsup]

what shape head do you have and which brands have you worn in the past?

is the sizing true to size or do they run smaller/larger?

I've worn a Shoei X-11 for the past few years and just got a Shark RSR2. Medium in both, and the fit is about the same. The only odd thing with the Shark is the ear cups seem a bit high, and it's a little harder to slip on a pair of glasses. By all accounts though the crumple zones should make it safer than a helmet with a solid liner.

I'm not really sure about head shape, generally round I guess. As for helmets, I haven't ever really purchased a new one until now, I usually got hand me downs. I found I like them by trying on every helmet brand and size on in my local shop.

I have worn HJC, Vega, Bell (nicest model they had), and a few others. I think my favorite helmets by far have been my two Shark helmets, models S500 and now a RSR2. They fit a more of an oval head, and are by far the lightest i've ever owned. The S500 was my first Shark, and I hate to admit, I bought it since the paint scheme matched the bike I had. I fell in love immediately. I just bought my RSR2 and as soon as I put it on and took off on my S4R (which is VERY loud with Termi carbon fiber race cans) I could tell the incredible difference in "quiet-ness". I do ride with custom molded ear plugs, too, and the combo of the two is amazing. It's like i'm in my own silent world. I think the chin curtain on the bottom does help, too with the buffeting noise. And those crumple zones in the inside are, IMO, a perfect design. As for the fit, the Arai's and the Sharks seemingly fit the same for me. HJC presses on my forehead (seemingly more of a round shaped helmet), and the Vega was sort of odd. The bell did the forehead press thing, too.

I got my RSR2 for a he** of a deal (under $200 new) and knowing what I know now, i'd pay full price for one without even blinking an eye. Shields are wickedly expensive too, but so thick I think they'd stop a rock or a bullet coming at my face! [thumbsup]

Just recently bought a SharK RSX, great helmet. The visor thickness is unreal and the ventillation is really good.

I wore a Vemar (another great helmet) prior to the Shark and sizing runs about the same.

The only down side to the Shark I've noticed is the reduced field of vision. It's much narrower than my Vemar.

My local shop was having a clearance on helmets, and I picked it up for $250.00 (listed at 450), it was to good a deal to pass up.
