Scorpion EXO-700
been using this helmet for about a week now. Great helemt for the price. You can really tell the difference between a $500 and a $120 helmet.
my Shoei RF-1000 is a lot more balance and light weight compared to the Scorpion. the shoei is a Large, weighing in at 3.3lbs, and the Scorpion is a medium weighing in at 4lbs.
Quality is great, once its on your head, you dont notice the 4lbs, but i haven't ridden the Scorpion for more than 50miles at a time, (the RF-1000 was with me for a 1200+mile trip)
one of the best features of this helmet is the cherry aroma in the helmet built right in! I read some reviews on them, and they do indeed have a cherry smell to it. Smells good.
The other A+ feature is the ever clear sheild. HOLY CRAP. i always have to crack the shoei open a bit to get it unfog. With the Scorpion, the everclear sheild is 100% fog free, i wear it completely closed all the time. The ventilation is GREAT on this helmet, though it gets a bit loud over 40mph compared to the shoei. You can really feel the air coming in on the top of your head at highway speeds.
I purchase this helmet because the Shoei was unsafe for me to wear. I purchased the wrong sized, and once it broke in, the front of the helmet would of destroyed my teeth if i crashed. If i would buy another helmet, i could get he Shoei RF-1000 again in medium, becasue its much lighter.
i
Scorpion runs 4 shell sizes, the medium is the smallest one. The lens cracks open a tad bit too much when compared to the shoei, but you wont need to if your worry about fogging. theres plenty of air in the helmet, and the fog proof feature is just too cool to pass up on.
I picked my helmet up at Sport Bike track gear. for $129 shipped in fury red. other colors are available, but costs more. Best $129 i ever spent. this year.
Scorpion Pros
Great airflow
100% fog free lens
lens is secure and has very stable stoping points (altogther about 5 points for the lens to stop)
very comfortable interior
The liner is completely removable and machine washable
Cons
Only certain colors avalible for $129
a bit heavy when compared to a top shelf helmet
the 1st stop for the lens is quite big

Re: Scorpion EXO-700
They certainly are great helmets.. I have found though, that even though the shield changing mechanism is a vast improvement over some other brands, it's still a PITA. I love my exo-400.

Re: Scorpion EXO-700
I have the 700 and I do love it. The only problem I have with it is that on the highway air really likes to shoot up from the bottom and dry out my eyes. So I have to be rockin' my Oakley Half Jackets to keep the wind out.

Re: Scorpion EXO-700
a small note: apparently the "matte black" finished helmets are a bit sensitive to rocks and gravel. the coating appears to "chip" off, rather than scratch... after a small brush with the ground while INSIDE my helmet bag, there's a nice little group of chips on the right-rear side. be careful.

I bought the chin guard from Scorpion, and that took care of my dry eyes.

8 year old nephews can chip the matte finish the same way.

Re: Scorpion EXO-700
A black sharpie seems to cover those chips up good enough for 50mph flyby's...

Re: Scorpion EXO-700
Good helmet for the price but my back vent fell off everytime I went over 90 mph. So as long as you keep your speeds around 75 you should be fine. Not a big fan of the scorpion helmet since the vent fell off twice after owning the helmet for 5 months. Its now my backup helmet and I have went out and got one of them arai's and been happy ever since. Hey not knocking scorpion but its not for me.
lata,
PS Yeah I know the venting mechanism is not that big of a deal but my superstitions say if it falls apart going 50 what happens when I crash.

You got bad vents... Mine aren't even loose after 2 years, and I've taken my bike to terminal velocity (somewhere around 120 if you believe the speedo)

Re: Scorpion EXO-700
i was doing 100mph for short bursts (30seconds?) a few times and had no problems. the helmet is pretty loud though. Then again, so is the bike.
