Default Earplugs

I didn't want to threadjack from 696's helmet thread, cause threadjacking is wrong . A couple weeks ago I lost my last set of the stupid foam ones, and i got angry that i keep losing them, so I got these (below). They work ok...they kinda go in deep and sometimes sound gets through...i don't know if i have big ear canals or what...but they're attached by a string so i don't lose them, easy to get in and out, instead of messing around doing that stupid twist.."ah..almost in...shit...its undoing" re-twist "ah...come on" stuff. So before i go back to foamies, I just wanted to know what you guys use.

I use foam. www.earplugsuperstore.com

I believe they're the EARSoft FX. I last bought a box of 200 ;D. You'd have thought I bought a pair of boots!

http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/eafxfoearpl2.html

They're super soft, and that's important to me because I have sensitive ears AND a small ear canal. I can't wear the hard foam OR those pre-formed mechanical jobbies. They're also rated to 33db - just about the most suppression you can find.

After years and years of loud music and bands (being in them and going to concerts) I want to preserve as much as my hearing as possible.

I use the Mac plugs on a string for cold-water (and icky water) kayaking, but they don't work for me on a motorcycle -- with a helmet on, they seem to push in too deep and start to hurt after 15-20 minutes, so I use the foam ones there.

One thing you'll discover -- the string falls out fairly quickly; I usually expect to get a month or two of intermittent (but admittedly non-standard) use out of 'em. Sometimes I can re-glue it, usually I just figure they're cheap and readily available at the drugstore. YMMV.

yea, the string pulls out every now and then, but as far as the helmet pushing it in, i've never had that happen. The helmet will move it around though so one ear will feel strange, but its do-able. I got them about 4 weeks ago...maybe more...after losing one of the foam ones while at a friends place. They were the only things the damn pharmacy carried. I plan to use them until they annoy me...which will probably be this weekend.

I use whatever foam jobbies I can jack from work. I prefer the "bullet" shaped ones to the cylinders, just personal preference. I think its mostly the texture I prefer. Smooth finish, as opposed to spongy.

I've also noticed that I get a better seal and possibly get them further in my ear if I open my jaw while I'm waiting for them to expand.

Foam (howard leight 33 db). My ear canals are silly-huge and nobody local stocks the reusable type in a large enough size. Never tried online though. Scooby's look interesting; perhaps I should try.

I bought a set of these (similar, not the exact brand) in the gun section of Walmart. They work very good...
