I think anythings better than nothing. Even if it's a small one that mostly just hold your innards in tight. Depends on how much bulk, heat, expense you want to put up with for however often or aggressively you tend to ride. Hope you live somewhere you can try some on. Sooo many to choose from! Good luck. I was probably going to hit up the local MX shops. if all else fails i can always try out something intended for construction workers. I'm really more interested in the support aspect.

A proper CE approved back protector is a great option that will also give you that additional lower back/abdominal support. They are worth a look strictly for the added crash protection they my provide. For back pain though, nothing will help more than resistance training, for long-term relief and muscle health, but a simple support belt may relieve some lower back pain for cheap and temporary relief.
